How to Hook Up a Receiver to a Video Plug:
- Pull the receiver and other components out far enough so you can check the connection jacks on the back of each. Find matching connection jacks on each component and receiver to select the best cable to use. A six-sided jack labeled HDMI is the best connection for HDTV, followed by component video with a red, green and blue plug on each end. The round S-video jack with pin holes inside is the best connection for an analog video device, such as a tube-type TV. If S-video is unavailable use a composite video cable with a single RCA plug on each end
- Push in the plug on one end of the video cable straight into the corresponding output jack on the rear of the AV receiver. The distinctive shape of the HDMI and S-video plug makes it necessary to align the plug with the jack outline for a proper connection
- Connect the other end of the cable to the matching video input jack on a TV, for example
- Connect a video cable from the output jack on a source device, such as a satellite receiver or Blu-ray player, to the input jack labeled for that device on the rear of your receiver
