What Is a PCI Serial Controller?
- Serial controllers connect modems, data terminals and computers to the motherboard using a serial port. Serial ports were common until around 1998, when the faster USB and FireWire ports became well-established
- Definition: PCI, which stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect, is an input/output peripheral bus standard. PCI uses buses as pathways that connect peripheral devices like the keyboard, mouse, monitor and printer to the motherboard
- Function: PCI serial controllers use the PCI bus to provide a data path between the central processing unit and an external device. Although serial ports work at low speeds, they can be useful for connecting older devices to a motherboard
- Components: A PCI serial controller is composed of a printed circuit board with two rows of gold "feet," or pins, that connect to a slot on the motherboard. A row of small capacitors near these pins filters out noise

06-07-2011- Other Thoughts: I was looking for a in-expensive esata port host/multipier for a new backup device called Sans Digital (MS2UTN+). This card worked just perfect and about half the price of some Dual ports. Couldnt find any reviews on this card but I took a chance anyway at this price with Amazon's Prime 2 day free shipping. Ran a benchmark on it, using the card for a Raid setup Sans Digital call's it Safe 33 (mirrowing only 33% of disk and the rest big), but we wont go into that here.

05-30-2011- Other Thoughts: My PC has 2 ESata ports, but they are in use and I needed another ESata port. I looked around and I bought this one (it has 2 ports). When I got it I wasn't sure if I needed to install from the disk that came with it.
I went to the website and asked and someone called me back right away. He spoke English and was very pleasant. He said I should download from the website in case it was an old disk.
But once I installed the board and rebooted, the computer automatically downloaded the driver without my lifting a finger. I connected an external Blu-Ray player and it was recognized and worked without the slightest trouble. You can't ask for a board that is better than this.

05-24-2011- Other Thoughts: I purchased one of these units a few months ago when I needed to expand the storage on my lab box at work. The need arose to increase the storage again, so I bought another one. I'd buy more of this gems if the need should arise. Just plug it in and go when running Windows Server 2008 R2 X64.

06-05-2011- Other Thoughts: I bought this product specifically because I needed port multiplier capability for a BlacX Duet docking station I had recently purchased. It was a snap to install, and my system recognized it immediately. However, it did not work properly with my BlacX Duet (a complicated story, but essentially the problem is that the drives periodically go offline) and it's not obvious whether the problem is with the Duet or the adapter. (I'm suspecting it's the Duet, by the way.)

05-27-2011- Other Thoughts: I purchased this to add external storage to my Windows Home Server. The card is very small, installs easily. The drivers for Server 2003 (on the supplied CD) installed without problem.
