    How to Build a Simple Wireless Transmitter:

    Building a wireless transmitter is a fantastic introduction to radio electronics. It is an inexpensive project, but uses similar technology to was used in vintage Morse code transmitters. This is a satisfying project because, though it is relatively simple to build, it creates a result that affects other pieces of technology. It is not just a circuit. It generates a signal that can be received.

    Antenna and Telegraph Key

    • Use the board as the base
    • Drill two holes the size of the dowels into the base about 2.5 inches apart
    • Insert the dowels into the holes
    • Wrap the wire around both the sticks together
    • Screw the telegraph key onto the base

    Breadboard

    • Place the 555 IC in the breadboard
    • Select one rail to be the ground rail and the other to be the power rail. This is an arbitrary choice. The rails are the long and outermost rows on the breadboard
    • Connect a jumper between IC Pins 2, 6 and 7
    • Connect a jumper between Pin 1 and the ground rail
    • Connect the 10uF capacitor (C1) between Pin 2 and the ground rail
    • Connect the resistor (R1) between Pin 7 and the power rail
    • Connect a jumper between Pin 4 and the power rail
    • Connect the 220uF capacitor (C2) between the ground rail and an empty row
    • Screw the breadboard onto the base

    Final Connections

    • Connect one end of the antenna wire to Pin 3
    • Screw the other end to the telegraph switch
    • Run a jumper between C2 and the unused telegraph switch terminal. Screw it on
    • Connect the red battery lead to the power rail, and the black lead to the ground rail
    • Put battery into the holder and screw the holder onto the base

    Operation

    • Place the transmitter near a radio
    • Turn the radio to AM
    • Hold down the telegraph key
    • Tune the radio to the signal
    • Tap the key to turn the transmission on and off

    How to Connect a Nady Wireless Transmitter to a Stereo Receiver:

    • Switch off power to the stereo receiver and dial the volume control knob on the front panel to zero before connecting the Nady transmitter
    • Attach the 1/4-inch audio cable supplied with the Nady wireless device to the output jack on the rear of the receiver (the larger of the two Nady components that come in the box). Plug in the other end of the cable to the left-audio jack on a set of stereo inputs on the rear of your receiver
    • Connect the DC power plug supplied with the Nady system to the power jack on the rear of the Nady receiver. Insert the plug on the other end into a standard 120-volt electrical outlet
    • Unscrew the battery compartment on the back of the Nady wireless transmitter and install a 9-volt battery in the compartment. Replace the battery compartment cover
    • Flip the power switches on the Nady receiver and transmitter to the "On" position
    • Turn on the stereo receiver and dial the input selection knob to the name of the jack connecting your receiver with the Nady equipment. Adjust the receiver volume to suit your preference
