How to Choose an USB Extension Cable?

    • If you want to connect a piece of hardware to your computer you most often use a USB cable. However, if the device is out of reach with the provided USB cable you need to obtain an extension cable. There are a few factors that can have an impact on your USB extension cable, including the length you need, the type of USB cable and what kind of USB adapter end you need to use.

    Instructions:

    • Things You'll Need: USB extension cable, Tape measure
    • Measure the distance between the computer and the hardware you want to connect. This helps to determine the length of the USB extension cable you will need to purchase
    • Decide whether you want to connect the extension cable directly to the ports on the hardware and the computer, or if you want to plug it into the cable provided with the hardware. This will determine the type of connectors you need on the extension cable
    • Look at the actual USB ports on the computer and the hardware, or the free end of the USB cable you will use with the extension. There are A-type and B-type USB cables. The one most otten used is the A USB cable. The port on this cable is rectangular and is about 1/2-inch wide. Type B resembles a square connector and is roughly 1/3-inch inch thick. Identify the ends of your existing USB ports to make sure you pick out the correct extension cable
    • Find an extension cable that has a male connector on each end. The male connector is inserted into the USB port. You need this kind of extension cable to connect it directly to the computer and hardware
    • Look for an extension cable that has one female end and one male end. This is if you plan to use the cable already provided, plus the extension cable. The provided cable plugs into the USB port of the hardware and the other end of the cable plugs into the female end of the extension cable. You then plug the male end of the extension cable into the USB port on the computer

    Package Included:

    • 1 x USB Hub

Works like a charm, very small size, perfect for xbox 360 use.

No cons

I bought this to charge my batteries/cellphone over my xbox, been working great and for the price there's nothing better around.

Perfect! Very useful!

Very convenient compact, doesn't take much room Sturdy, thick cable wrapping snug fit into USB ports (of computer and into the 4 ports themselves)

Not actually USB 2.0, my system detects that every device I plug into it can be faster if plugged into a different port. But still worth it!

Though its not USB 2.0, it is still very good, not many would argue that it does not function properly but it works GREAT! Works very well with my laptop, providing 4 extra ports as laptop have very little amount of ports (only 3)

Simple useful thing.

Small, handy, good speed connection as claimed to be.

Wish the primary wire can be slightly longer though. =P Otherwise, no comment.

Save me lots of trouble by providing more USB ports.

love how small it is
00:00:00 03-31-2011
I bought this USB hub to be able to add a couple of extra USB ports to the back of my computer. I love how small it is, and the fact that it does not require any external power supply, so no additional cables or power bricks to plug into a wall outlet.

Great Hub

If you need a 4 port unpowered USB hub this one works nicely for me. I have a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer an eleven GB Drive Eight GB Microdrive and a mouse connected. so far every time I power up my laptop everything has always been recognized.

Product FAQs
  • Can you tell me something about USB Hub's Speed?
  • To allow high-speed devices to operate in their fastest mode all hubs between the devices and the computer must be high speed. High-speed devices should fall back to full-speed when plugged in to a full-speed hub (or connected to an older full-speed computer port). While high-speed hubs support all device speeds, low and full-speed traffic is combined and segregated from high-speed traffic through a transaction translator. Each transaction translator segregates lower speed traffic into its own pool, essentially creating a virtual full-speed bus. Some designs use a single transaction translator, while other designs have multiple translators. Having multiple translators is only a significant benefit when connecting multiple high-bandwidth full-speed devices.

It is an important consideration that in common language (and often product marketing) USB 2.0 is used as synonymous with high-speed. However, because the USB 2.0 specification, which introduced high-speed, incorporates and supersedes the USB 1.1 specification, any compliant full-speed or low-speed device is still a USB 2.0 device. Thus, not all USB 2.0 hubs operate at high-speed.

  • What is USB Hub's Power about?
  • A bus-powered hub is a hub that draws all its power from the host computer's USB interface. It does not need a separate power connection. However, many devices require more power than this method can provide, and will not work in this type of hub.

USB current (related to power) is allocated in units of 100 mA up to a maximum total of 500 mA per port. Therefore a compliant bus powered hub can have no more than four downstream ports and cannot offer more than four 100 mA units of current in total to downstream devices (since one unit is needed for the hub itself). If more units of current are required by a device than can be supplied by the port it is plugged into, the operating system usually reports this to the user.

  • What is a usb root hub?
  • It's the port you plug your your electronics in with the wire into the computer. Its located by the CD rom area where you put in cds to the computer. Depending on what type of computer you have you will know. Yes if you have a 2.0 port it will work.
