How to Install A Power Supply:

OPENING THE CASE

• Depending on which brand of computer your working with figuring out how to open the case can be a little tricky as some may require you to remove a few screws from the side panel and then lift it off where as others may require you to first remove the front and then side panel, and some may even have a side panel that snaps in and out of place with no screws to remove at all. Either way once you have wrestled with your particular machine and finally gained access to the inner hardware it is time to think about the safety of your machine. I would suggest wearing an antistatic bracelet (to prevent static build up from traveling to the sensitive computer components that are housed inside the case) that is if you have one if you don't you can continuously touch the outside metal edges of your computer tower

REMOVING THE OLD POWER SUPPLY

• Now it is time to remove the screws that house your old power supply usually there are four mounting screws that hold it in place and by removing these screws the power supply will be free from its housing however it will still be connected to the motherboard by way of the connectors. Set the box aside so that it is as out of the way as possible I would suggest placing it on top of the drive cage to allow yourself enough room to work

INSTALLING THE NEW POWER SUPPLY

How to Check Power Supply Voltage:

• Connect your multimeter probes to your multimeter and turn it on. Observe the correct polarity. The red probe is the positive one, and it is plugged into the red plug on the multimeter. The black probe is the negative or common probe, and is plugged into the black plug on the multimeter
• Set your multimeter function to measure either an alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) voltage, depending on the output of your power supply. Most power supplies for commercial use produce a DC voltage

• Connect the multimeter probes to the power supply output terminals by touching the probes to the metal contacts.
