How to Set Up an Edup Wireless LAN Adapter
- Installing an Edup wireless LAN adapter may require using third-party drivers.

Many Edup card users have reported difficulties installing their wireless adapters, due to faulty or missing instructions, drivers and poor technical support. Fortunately, Edup adapters are installed the same way as other wireless cards, and third-party software drivers are available.

Instructions:

Install the wireless adapter in your computer.
- Depending on which type of adapter you have, this process will differ. A USB adapter can simply be plugged into a USB slot on your computer. A PCMCIA wireless adapter card will plug into a PCMCIA slot on a laptop. These slots are usually on the side of the laptop
- If you have a PCI-type adapter for a desktop computer, you will need to open your computer case, and plug it into a PCI slot. In most computers, the PCI slot is white, and shorter than the other slot types. The instruction manual that came with the adapter should contain detailed instructions on how to physically install the adapter
Install the software drivers for the wireless adapter.
- In most cases, your computer should automatically begin to install the right drivers
- Alternatively, you may wish to install them manually from the driver disc that should have come packaged with the adapter. Insert the CD and wait for a window to pop up. There should be a button called "Install Drivers." Click it, and follow the onscreen instructions
- Some users have reported receiving the wrong drivers with their Edup adapters, or that the official drivers do not work. If this happens to you, download and install the "I-O DATA WN-B11/USBSL Wireless LAN Adapter 3.0.2.0" drivers. The website of the company that manufactures the Edup line of wireless adapters does not host the drivers needed to run the adapters
Join a wireless network.
- Once the adapter and its drivers have been properly installed, your computer will ask you if you wish to join a wireless network. It will display a list of wireless networks your adapter can locate. Select your home network from the list. If you set up your home network to require a password, you will be asked to enter it now. Once you have selected your network and entered your password, the set up of your Edup wireless LAN adapter should be complete.

What's great about it: this one gets it ... What's not so great: It took a while to get out of the box "the adapter is just awesome. It took twice as long to remove it from the packaging as it did to make it work. I already had a Linksys Rangeplus Home Network so that was ready to go, although I'm not super-technical for those of you who are anxious about this. I plugged it into my Tivo & Tivo sent me a message to my on-screen message center which walked me through the simple-as-you-like installation procedure and it's now connected. It asked for the password to my WPA2 protected network and that was hard as it got. It wasn't cheap but it's not much more than many other adapters, and with the built in Tivo functionality, it's well worth the money.

I've got a toshiba laptop where my internal wifi card failed. I'd gotten a netgear usb card that i'd been using. I'm using the adapter now. I primarily use Linux. Ubuntu picked up the card right away. While the Netgear usb card regularly lost the connection, this adapter is awesome! It's stable. It's fast. It works flawlessly in Ubuntu. Did I mention that it's fast? Pages load in a fraction of the time the Netgear loaded them.

Bought for older desktop running Windows XP. Insert the setup CD and took less than 5 minutes to install software then connect to wireless network. Router is about 40 feet away through about 6 walls, status tab states receiving 100% signal. For $13 not bad for turning desktop wireless as oppose to fishing a 50ft ethernet cable which probably cost more.

I am using this with an old Celeron Compaq situated on the opposite end of our large home. Our router is the dreaded Actiontec supplied with my Fios service and I wasn't expecting a very good connection or speed. WRONG! After a very quick install the thing just worked! At first all I could get was a "poor" on signal strength and a "weak" signal status. I added a short USB extension to the cable they already supply and sent it up my wall about 7 feet. THAT was all it needed. I now have a "very good" signal and a 'normal' status and am consistently hitting the speed limit of the device. I was very pleasantly surprised. I hope it keeps working. UPDATE: I have had the dongle for about 2 weeks now and after moving the router about 1 room closer to me I now get an "Excellent" signal strength and it maintains a steady 54 mpbs. More than good enough to stream Hulu with no glitches. It dropped the connection occasionally on startup before moving the router, but now it is right there at all times with no drop offs. It does get hot though.

Just got this in a local store (would've gone through Amazon - much cheaper, but it was needed immediately.) Using a laptop with WinXP SP2 + all the patches, this thing works great. My laptop has 3 USB ports (all of which are USB 1.1) - contrary to other reviews, this little USB plug DOES work in each USB port without any problems. After you install the software and plug it into the initial USB port, Windows will automatically install the driver for each additional port - but it works flawlessly in each. I was going to get the PC card version (PCMCIA), but from the specs on the box, this one has twice the range. I'll probably use this in my home computer after vacation since it's incredibly easy to setup and use, and have had no problems whatsoever. Would recommend to anyone looking for a USB wireless Network Adapter!

I just installed this adapter--Windows XP is my operating system. It installed from the CD with no problem, found my router and listed it as one of the choices to use. I had to put my 26 digit number in to allow it to use my router and it worked perfectly. I am thrilled that it didn't cause me any problems with installation. Nice and easy!
