How to Repair Car Rear Lights?

Because of age, it's likely that at some point soon your car will need to have a light bulb replaced. You should check headlamps, tail lamps, brake lamps, the high-mounted brake lamp, turn signals and reverse lamps on a regular basis to ensure they are operable. The tail lamp, brake lamp, rear turn signal and reverse lamp bulbs are located in the same housing. Often, replacing a bulb involves accessing the housing from the trunk or wagon cargo area. Sometimes, the bulb is accessed from the exterior. Changing the bulb can be accomplished by following some simple steps.

• Open the trunk and take out the plastic mushroom nuts, push pins, and then the plastic cover over the lamp housing. Pull the carpet away and remove nuts and washer assemblies, and the lamp assembly. If the lens cover has Phillips-head screws visible from the outside, access the bulb assembly from the exterior by unscrewing the screws and removing the lens.
• Remove the bulb socket for the expired lamp by turning it counter-clockwise and then pulling it out of the lamp cluster assembly and into the trunk. Remove the expired bulb from the socket and insert the new bulb. From the exterior, remove the bulb only and not the entire socket.
• Reinsert the bulb socket into the assembly by turning it clockwise. Reinstall the assembly into the sedan trunk with the nuts and washers. Push the carpet back and re-install the plastic cover. From the exterior, simply insert a new bulb and re-attach the lens cover.

Wagon

• Open the tailgate and remove the bolts from the lamp housing. Carefully pull the assembly from the wagon.
• Remove the bulb socket for the expired lamp by turning it counter-clockwise and then pulling it out of the lamp cluster assembly. Remove the expired bulb from the socket and insert the new bulb.
• Reinsert the bulb socket into the assembly by turning it clockwise. Reinstall the assembly into the wagon cargo area with the bolts
