How to Protect the Lens of a Canon:

    • The best way to protect the lens is to keep the lens cover on at all times when not filming.
    • Attach the lens hood to protect the lens and shade it from unwanted light and unwanted fingerprints.
    • Buy and attach a UV filter protect from scratches, dust, fingerprints, and UV rays.
    • Avoid exposing the lens to harsh weather conditions or storing near dusty or sandy areas. If filming on the beach, watch out for salt water spray which is extremely corrosive - keep the hood on and use a filter.
    • Clean the lens by gently blowing dust from the lens or using a soft, dry cleaning cloth (preferably microfiber) to remove unwanted particles or fingerprints.

How to Remove a Lens Cap:

    Camera Lens Cap

A standard lens cover usually comes with a camera. Smaller digital point-and-shoot cameras like Nikon Coolpix or the Canon Powershot typically have lens covers that automatically retract when you click the power button. Larger SLR and digital SLR cameras, like the Canon Rebel, typically have removable lens caps that come with the camera. On these cameras, you will need to remove the lens cap before you can take a picture. Overall, the cap is a valuable asset to a camera, as it protects the lens from getting scratches or dirt on the it when it is not in use.

    •  Be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you will not be able to drop the lens cap off a cliff or drop it in someone's drink by accident. Take the lens cap off before turning the camera on. Sometimes the lens cap will pop off the camera and damage the cap.
    • Grab hold of your camera so that it won't fall out of your hands by placing your right hand under the camera to get a firm grip. You can also put the camera's strap around your neck for security.
    • Place your forefinger and the thumb of your free hand around the cap. Many lens caps have two small latches across from each other. If that is the case, press the latches in toward each other.
    • Pull off the lens cap and start taking photographs. Put your lens cap somewhere you will remember.
    • Replace the lens cap after each use. It will protect your lens from getting dirty or cracked

    Tips and Warning:

    Front Lens Cap

    • Most smaller cameras have a built-in lens cap. Larger cameras usually have lens caps. Many SLR cameras have different lenses that hook up to the camera. Therefore, you will have two lens caps. Take both off before use and put both on after using the camera. You can buy replacement lens caps from the lens manufacturer or an online camera supply store.
    • Do not subject your camera or lens cap to extreme heat.

04:23:39 02-28-2012 High Quality Lens Cap Overall:
  • Pros: Materiel, Quality, Price, Shape
  • Cons: Package, Delivery, Description
  • Other Thoughts: this item is near the quality as the original. This cap snugs on the lens tight with a good seal and does not have bulky release tabs like the other bad quality caps; those tabs catch when you're pulling camera in/out of bag. Highly recommended for professional photographers!

00:00:00 03-23-2011 Nice Cap Overall:
  • Other Thoughts: Lost my original canon cap in the woods somewhere, bought this to replace it. It works! I found my old one in the woods a year later, cleaned it off, and now I don't know which is which. I use them both. They are the same.

  • Other Thoughts: Yes it's the real deal, yes it just sits there most of the time and when it's not its all warm and wrapped up in my pocket or bag. What a life!

00:00:00 05-25-2011 lens cap Overall:
  • Other Thoughts: Well, it's Canon, so there is no doubt about the quality. The only downside -- because it doesn't have a string the cap is very easy to misplace. Always put it in your pocket everytime you remove it from the camera to shoot pictures.

00:00:00 05-03-2011 Lens cap Overall:
  • Other Thoughts: Its a lens cap - it works. It fits the lens adapter barrel, not the wider lens hood. I dont use the lens hood anyway, it blocks the popup flash on the camera. I keep the barrel adapter - with a uv filter and this lens cap - on the camera all the time.
