How to Use Lens Hood in Studio:

    • Remove the lens cap from the camera
    • Attach the lens hood to the camera. Lens hoods attach by screwing into, clipping onto, or fitting over the outside of the lens
    • Check the shadow of the lens hood. If direct light is passing into the lens, it will appear as a "lens flare". Adjust the lens hood to block direct light by twisting it on the lens
    • Check the position of the lights, reflectors and subject. Using a lens hood is preferable in a studio situation in which the lights, reflectors, and subject are set up optimally, but light is still directly entering the lens and causing flares. If there is no better orientation for the studio lighting equipment or subject, a lens hood is the best choice to block excess, flaring light

Methods to Clean Mold on Camera Lens:

    • Purchase a cleaning product. These include Clorox Germicidal Spray, Tilex Mildew Remover and 500 PSI Mask Scrub. You can use almost any product that removes mold on glasses or lenses. Read the warning label for the product you choose
    • Rub the lens cloth over the camera lens. Remove any grime or dirt that is present. This will allow you to see the damage more clearly
    • Dip one lens cloth in warm water. Squeeze out any surplus of water. Extra water can seep into the camera if not careful
    • Wipe the lens with the damp cloth. Concentrate on the mold section and any small creases around the camera lens. This will move any remaining dirt
    • Spray or pour a drop of cleaner on the second lens cloth. Polish the camera lens thoroughly. Cover ever part of the mold pores including around any creases
    • Use the third lens cloth to wipe the moisture off. Towel it completely dry. Then store it in a safe, dry location

How to Choose a Camera Lens Protector:

    LCD Screen Hood

The glass on the camera lens is something that must be protected. Certain aspects of the lens can be repaired, but damage to the glass is permanent in many cases. There are several methods and products used to protect the glass, and the correct method of protection depends on the lens. DSLR cameras have separate lenses that can have an attached filter for protection. Point-and-shoot-style cameras will require other forms of protection, and medium-body cameras depend on the manufacturer

    • Check the lens for threads. The majority of DSLR lenses will have threads for screw-on filters. Some zoom cameras will have the threads on the permanent lens and very few point-and-shoot cameras will have the threads
    • Check the lens for a diameter reading. Use a clear screw-on filter that matches the diameter. Twist the filter counterclockwise before making the clockwise turns to ensure that it does not become cross-threaded
    • Use a front filter for cameras without threads or with outdated thread diameters. The front filter is held in front of the lens while photographing. Specialty hoods are also effective for holding the filter in front of the lens and protecting the glass
    • Protect the point-and-shoot lens with LCD screen protectors. The point-and-shoot is not compatible with most filter covers, and the clear plastic will help protect the glass
    • Cover the entire camera body with a waterproof bag or case for shooting in wet climates. The lens will become damaged by water unless you are using a waterproof camera with sealed rings

    Tips & Warnings:

    LCD Camera Protector

    • Add a permanent clear filter to all of your lenses. This will prevent forgetting the protection and accidentally damaging the lens
    • Lens filters and covers are effective for protecting the glass, but abusing the lens can still cause permanent damage

It fits my Nikon D5000 kit lens 18-55VR perfectly. This is a well made lens hood at a good price. It can be backward mounted so it's not taking more space in the bag. It does the job it's supposed to do, block sunlight.

Non

This one must be in your camera kit, a non expensive lens hood.

Good choice!

Reduces flare and ghosting when shooting in bright light.
Helps protect your lens from dirt and scratches.
Somewhat protects the lens in case of a fall. Better to break the hood than the front element.
Makes you look more like you know what you are doing and helps keep others from carelessly walking in front of you.

Nice!

This seemingly simple piece of molded plastic was recommended to me by a professional photographer. Basically it's the shape of an open box that slides firmly onto the flash. It is small and sturdy enough to stash in your camera bag without worrying about damage. When used the light disperses more evenly and is less harsh on the subject being photographed. Inexpensive solution for better flash photography. A quality product that works.

I like it!

After using my lens on vacation and having a difficult time keeping sun flare off the lens, I finally decided to buy this product. Just completed doing an outdoor wedding and the sun was all over the place, and this hood did exactly what is supposed to do. Didn't ruin one shot because of sun flares. Easy to use and easy to store when not in use.
