Cosplay Tutorials:
- Cosplay -- short for costume play -- is a popular pastime involving dressing as a character from anime, video games, or various science fiction and fantasy mediums. Since these costumes usually aren't readily available for purchase, most cosplayers create their costumes themselves. The complexity of these costumes varies wildly, with some being nearly indistinguishable from casual clothing, and others being the result of long hours of work and hundreds of dollars in materials
Clothing:
- Your clothes can be store bought, but they'll look best if you do some work to modify the clothes to get them to look more like those of the character. Try looking in thrift stores for cheap clothes that you won't mind cutting up or sewing things onto. If you can't find anything that can be altered to look like your character's clothes, you may have to make clothes from scratch. In that case, look in fabric stores for both fabric and patterns similar to the character's clothes. Be ready to make some changes to whatever pattern you find
Hair and Wigs:
- Your hair may be similar to your character's hair, in which case all you have to worry about is styling it. However, it's more likely that you'll need to either temporarily dye your hair or buy a wig. The easiest method of dying your hair is with a colored spray that will wash out, but there are drawbacks. For example, colored sprays tend to rub off when touched and may discolor your costume in this way, and the sprays may not wash out for several days. Wigs are more expensive, but are generally worth the cost, because they look better and can be worn multiple times. They can be purchased in costume shops or online, and come in all lengths and colors, but you may need to do some styling yourself
Accessories and Props:
- This is what can turn an average costume into a great costume. Weapons, jewelry, armor, wings, goggles, instruments, and countless other possible additions will really make your costume stand out from the crowd. When considering how to make your props or accessories, the cheapest material is cardboard and duct tape, but it's highly recommended that you avoid settling for such a basic and boring option. You would do much better to try working with paper mache, for example. Using sheets of craft foam or fun foam is even better, and clays like Sculpey and Fimo can give you good results as well
