How to Hook Up an MP3 Player to a Car Stereo Deck

Compact and convenient, MP3 players let you listen to your favorite music without having to deal with multiple CDs, cassettes and other traditional mediums. MP3 players store songs on a hard drive similar to the one in your computer. MP3 players contain a jack that not only accepts headphones, but also a stereo cable for connecting the device to a home stereo. You can even hook up an MP3 player to your car's stereo deck.
Connecting Your MP3 Player to Your Car Stereo--FM Transmitter- Turn off your MP3 player.
- Locate the battery door on the bottom of your FM transmitter. Open the door and install the necessary batteries. Do not turn on the FM transmitter yet.
- Plug the 1/8-inch stereo cable attached to the FM transmitter into the headphone jack on the side, front or back of your MP3 player. If the FM transmitter doesn't have a stereo cable attached to it, plug one end of a 1/8-inch stereo cable into the "Input" jack on the side of the FM transmitter and plug the other end into your MP3 player's headphone jack.
- Turn on both your MP3 player and FM transmitter. Turn on your car's stereo. Set the FM transmitter's tuning control to a station not used in your area. Tune your car's stereo to the station you set on your FM transmitter.
- Press "Play" on your MP3 player. Use the FM transmitter's fine tuning control to adjust the station's reception. You will hear the song playing on your MP3 player through your car's speakers. If you don't hear the song, adjust the FM transmitter's fine tuning control or adjust your car's stereo station control.
Connecting Your MP3 Player to Your Car Stereo--Cassette Adapter
- Turn off your MP3 player.
- Insert the cassette adapter into your car stereo's cassette player. The cassette adapter goes into your car's stereo just like a regular cassette tape.
- Plug the 1/8-inch stereo cable attached to the cassette adapter into the headphone jack on the side, front or back of your MP3 player.
- Turn on your car's stereo.
- Press "Play" on your MP3 player. You will hear the song playing on your MP3 player through your car's speakers. If you don't hear the song, press the "Cassette," "Tape" or similar button on your car's stereo to put the stereo into cassette mode.
Connecting Your MP3 Player to Your Car Stereo--Auxiliary Input Jacks
- Turn off your MP3 player.
- Plug one end of a 1/8-inch stereo cable into the headphone jack on the side, front or back of your MP3 player.
- Plug the other end of the 1/8-inch stereo cable into the "Auxiliary Input" jack on the front of your car's stereo.
- Press the "AUX" or similar button on your car's stereo to activate the auxiliary input jack on your car's stereo.
- Press "Play" on your MP3 player. You will hear the song playing on your MP3 player through your car's speakers.
Tips & Warnings

- Remember that 1/8-inch stereo jacks are the standard on MP3 players and FM transmitters. If your MP3 player has a larger headphone jack, purchase a stereo cable that matches your MP3 player's headphone jack, but has on the other end of the cable a 1/8 inch jack. You can also purchase an adapter to convert your MP3 player's headphone jack to 1/8 inch.
- If your car stereo and MP3 player are Bluetooth enabled, you can transmit songs from the MP3 player to the stereo wirelessly using Bluetooth technology. Activate the Bluetooth control on both the MP3 player and your car stereo, then press "Play" on the MP3 player to listen to songs through your car's speakers.

08-11-2011- Other Thoughts: If you want to listen to your music in your car and you just want it to work and be cheap (cost effective), then you'll enjoy this device heavily. I was skeptical at first of the quality of the product, it looked very cheap and like it wouldn't last long at all, so I was prepared to shell out money for another one. However that point in time never came, fortunately it still works for me to this day. The only advice I can give is make sure there is no interference with other radio stations out there. I have not tested the usb functionality yet, but the 3.5mm jack works perfectly fine to this day.

09-15-2011- Other Thoughts: I did not expect much from this Car MP3 Players because of the ridiculously low price, but I am pleasantly surprised! All functions work perfectly and sound quality is excellent. It even has a built in equalizer!
The lack of any instruction manual is a minor complaint, but all controls are pretty much self explanatory. The battery holder on the remote control is a loose fit but scotch tape cured that minor problem.
Overall it is a great bargain!
