How to Use Lens Hood in Studio:
    Camera Lens Hood

    • Remove the lens cap from the camera
    • Attach the lens hood to the camera. Lens hoods attach by screwing into, clipping onto, or fitting over the outside of the lens
    • Check the shadow of the lens hood. If direct light is passing into the lens, it will appear as a "lens flare". Adjust the lens hood to block direct light by twisting it on the lens
    • Check the position of the lights, reflectors and subject. Using a lens hood is preferable in a studio situation in which the lights, reflectors, and subject are set up optimally, but light is still directly entering the lens and causing flares. If there is no better orientation for the studio lighting equipment or subject, a lens hood is the best choice to block excess, flaring light

Methods to Clean Mold on Camera Lens:

    • Purchase a cleaning product. These include Clorox Germicidal Spray, Tilex Mildew Remover and 500 PSI Mask Scrub. You can use almost any product that removes mold on glasses or lenses. Read the warning label for the product you choose
    • Rub the lens cloth over the camera lens. Remove any grime or dirt that is present. This will allow you to see the damage more clearly
    • Dip one lens cloth in warm water. Squeeze out any surplus of water. Extra water can seep into the camera if not careful
    • Wipe the lens with the damp cloth. Concentrate on the mold section and any small creases around the camera lens. This will move any remaining dirt
    • Spray or pour a drop of cleaner on the second lens cloth. Polish the camera lens thoroughly. Cover ever part of the mold pores including around any creases
    • Use the third lens cloth to wipe the moisture off. Towel it completely dry. Then store it in a safe, dry location

How to Connect a Canon Lens Hood:

MASSA ET-60 Lens Hood for CANON EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III

    • Attach the lens to the camera body by aligning the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera body. If it is an EF-S lens, you will be attaching the white square to the white square instead of red dots
    • Align the red dot on the lens hood with the red dot on the end of the lens. The red dot is the same on all lens hoods, regardless if it is an EF lens or an EF-S lens
    • Turn the lens hood clockwise until it locks into place. The red dot on the camera should align with the line and circle on the lens hood. The lens hood is now connected to the camera lens

How to Design a Lens Hood:

    • Decide on the material to use. If the lens hood is being used outdoors, then it will need to be able to withstand the different weather you may encounter
    • Pick a material that has a flat finish as opposed to one that is reflective. Ideally the lens hood should be made of a flat black material
    • Determine the angle at which the hood will need to be constructed so it doesn't encroach on the field of view of the lens. The best way to do this is to put the camera with the lens you are building the lens hood for on a tripod. Cut a four inch square of the lens hood material
    • Hold the square in your hand and position one end to rest on the top of the lens near the front. Slowly start to tilt the front of the square up in the air, allowing the back end of the square to rest on the lens. Look through the viewfinder and when the square is no longer intruding into your field of view, you will have the angle at which the four sides will need to be
    • Cut the square into a trapezoid, trimming the excess material from the front of the square back toward the rear so the square is same size as the lens opening. Use this as the template for the other three sides
    • Attach all four sides to each other using flat black gaffers tape. Place the lens hood on the lens and secure it in place using gaffers tape

15:52:44 10-26-2011 Great Lens Hood! Overall:
  • Pros: This lens hood does exactly has described. It protects from accidentally bumping the glass against something and also make a huge difference in lens flare when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. I noticed that it also sits on my kit 18-55mm lens, although when zoomed out to 18mm you can see the edges of the hood.
  • Cons: No cons - yay!
  • Other Thoughts: I use the hood whenever I shoot outside in the sunlight, to stop my pictures from being ruined by lens flare. It works well.

00:00:00 07-20-2011 the BEST Overall:
  • Other Thoughts: This is the third Camera Lens Hood I have purchased for my Canon 40D, and this is by far the BEST! From the way the hood locks onto my lenses, to the felted interior of the hood, there is nothing better out there! The price is amazing. I have thrown the hood into my camera bag and suitcase, and the hard plastic does not even show a scratch.
