    How to Play Telephone:

    • Start the game off by telling a complicated story to the first child. You will need to whisper the story in her ear, so if you are playing in the car, enlist one of the oldest children to start the game.
    • Come up with stories that have lots of details, especially involving people and places. The more detailed the story is, the more likely the message will be changed as it makes it way through the telephone line.
    • Listen carefully as the second player whispers the story to the third. The story is then repeated in whispers by the players until the last player in line has heard it.
    • Laugh when you hear how the original story has changed. The final player in the telephone line will repeat the story as he heard it. The more garbled the message, the funnier this game becomes!
    • Make the game even more difficult by having noise such as a radio or television in the background. This will really require the players to concentrate on what the others are whispering as the message makes it way through the line.
    • Play a variation of this game by drawing a picture and having the first player describe it to the next and so on. The last player to hear the description should draw her version of the picture. When it's displayed, you'll see how different people describe images in their own way and how this can change their interpretation.
    • Make faces instead of telling stories in another version of the telephone game. In this game, the first player makes a face at the second, who then tries to duplicate it for the third. Sure to induce laughter in even the most sullen child, this is a great game to play when keeping quiet isn't the objective.

    How to Connect Extension Phone Wires:

    • Remove the existing telephone wire from the wall by pressing down the plastic pin at the top of the plug and pulling. Plug the extension wire in its place. You will hear a click when its is properly inserted
    • Guide the extension lead behind furniture (if necessary) to the phone's new location. Make sure the cable isn't pulled too tight, or in a place where people can trip over it
    • Plug the coupler onto the extension cable. The coupler has sockets on both ends; it doesn't matter which you choose. Then plug the phone's original wire into the remaining coupler socket. If you use a coupler, skip to Step 5
    • Alternatively, remove the original phone wire, then plug the extension wire directly into the phone. The phone wire can only be inserted one way and will click into place when fully inserted
    • Pick up the phone and check for a dial tone. The phone should work as normal and won't require any additional setup

    How to Find a Desk Phone:

    • Select a phone with speaker capabilities. This is an important function, because it frees you from holding the phone to your ear, which over prolonged periods can cause soreness in your arm and neck. The speaker function also enables you to have another person participate in your side of the conversation if necessary
    • Select a phone that has a compatible headset. A headset will keep you from holding the phone to your ears with your hand or between your ear and shoulder. This comes in handy when you don't want to use the speaker function, such as when when the information in the call needs to remain confidential. The headset also makes it easier to multitask, since you'll have full use and range of motion of your head and arms
    • Find a phone that has a shoulder rest or an attachable shoulder-rest accessory. There are times when you need to make a short call and putting on the speaker function or using the headset is not practical. The shoulder rest makes holding the phone between your ear and your shoulder more comfortable
    • Analyze the cord on the phone to make sure it is a reasonable length based on where you want to place the phone, and make sure the cord will not be too cumbersome to have on your desk. You do not want the cord to get in the way of your work or, worse, hang over your desk and become a tripping hazard. Alternatively, you can choose a cordless phone
    • Test the volume-control options. No two phones are created equally, and the highest setting on one phone may be perfect, while another phone's may be too quiet. If you can't hear the person at the other end, the phone is not doing its job. When testing volume-control options, take into account that there is usually some background noise in the workplace

  • Other Thoughts: I loved the Novelty Telephone, but I could tell that it is not of the highest quality, which didn't bother me until the piece that hangs up the phone stuck. It worked great for the first few weeks and now I can't get a dial tone because the little button is stuck in "hang up mode". Anyways, maybe mine was just a bum, but I did like it every other way!
