My wife and I will go to her motherland German to take part in her brother's wedding party at the end of this month. We will stay there almost three weeks. I want to know if I bring my PC keyboard with me, could I just plug it into her brother's computer (vista) and have it recognize and type the English characters. It's a regular USB keyboard, just didn't know if anything had to be installed for the other character set. Or do you also have to do something to Vista for it to work, like enable the English character set or something.

Thanks for the reply. I am sure one advantage of bringing my PC keyboard is so the letters matched up. For example the Z and Y are opposite, and a few other characters. I don't look at the keyboard anyway when typing.

You need an additional input language. I don't know if it installs automatically, but if not, you can do it yourself. In Windows Vista it should be under 'Regional and Language Options' in the Control Panel.
But the question is, why bring a keyboard? If it's because of the different layout, I can understand. But if just to be able to type English, Windows supports that just fine on US English keyboards.
