file will not delete

I think I deleted a file incorrectly, now the icon is stuck on my desktop and cannot be deleted. When I try to delete it I get "could not find the item. This is no longer located in c:\users/myname\desktop. verify the item's location and try again. It still shows up in the desktop folder, but I can't delete it from there either. When you do a search it can't be found. It is an mp4 file. I have Windows 7. Thanks.
