How to Use a Remote Control for an Air Conditioner:

Getting up from your seat constantly to change the temperature on a portable or window air conditioner can really be a drag. It's reminiscent of the days before remotes, when you had to get up from the sofa to change the channel on the television. • Batteries-Remote controls that come with various air conditioner units require a specific size battery. Some remotes require two AA batteries while others require AAA batteries. If the batteries fail to power the remote, remove them and either test the battery power of each one or replace them with new ones
• Polarity-While the correct batteries might be installed in the remote control, the batteries might not be inserted correctly. Batteries must be inserted according to the polarity instructions within the battery chamber or owner's manual. Sometimes the instructions indicate that the batteries must face opposite directions for the remote control to work. Slide the cover off of the remote, and remove the batteries. Locate the polarity indicator on the inside of the chamber, and rotate the batteries to mirror the indicator. Insert the batteries as such, and confirm that the internal springs are pressed against the back of the batteries and not bent to the side
• Blockage-If the inside of the battery chamber is dirty, blocked or corroded, the batteries might not power the AC remote control. Slide the back off of the remote, and remove the batteries. Dip the end of a regular cotton swab into some isopropyl alcohol, and gently wipe the metal components of the battery chamber with the wet swab until all dirt and grime are removed from the chamber. Allow a moment for the chamber to dry, and wipe down the batteries to remove dirt and grime. Reinsert them into the chamber according to the polar indicators
• Proximity-The front panel of the air conditioner features a remote control signal receiver. The front of the remote features a window, which sends out signals as commands to the air conditioner. If you are standing too far away from the air conditioner while pressing the buttons on the remote control, the sensor is unable to pick up the signal from the remote. Some units feature a signal range of up to 20 or 21 feet. Move closer to the air conditioner, and press the desired buttons
