If it came with a usb cord you can plug it to the computer and open my computer, view system information when that opens, clcik on the camera. It even ask you what you want to do once you plug it to a USB port.
It depends what connectivity method is used by the camera. It may be connect via Infrared system, blue tooth system etc. So, those system is the basic requirement for your computer. You should have manual of that camera. It will give you details about computer configurations requirement. Otherwise you have to search in net.
Look at the label on the outlet power source for the "output" specification. Then, go to radio shack and get a battery holder for AA batteries. Example: 8 AA holder = 12 volts ; 4 AA holder = 6 volts, etc. Typically a webcam is probably 12 volts. If the power connector to the power source is direct wired, you'll need to cut the wires and attach the battery holder by soldering it to the proper cut wires. If on the other hand the camera has a special connector to plug to the power adapter, simply get the right connector and do some soldering again.
