What is a good flashlight to take camping?
LED flashlights are the best thing because the bulbs don't burn out or break. You can have a try!

How far does the flashlight ray reach in the day?
You can see a distant flashlight better at night because it isn't overwhelmed by atmospheric diffusion of sunlight. But since air is usually stiller at night (less convection from sun-warmed surfaces, less disturbance from traffic), it has less particulate matter, so absorbs less of the light. Light travels indefinately until it strikes/interferes with molecules, this is common in atmospheres and very evident in smoke or fog (even more so with lasers!). You can sometimes see how far a flashlight can shine in a heavy fog if you move sideaways from your flashlight.

How to convert a 6 volt flashlight into a 5 volt line?
The indicator LED might not be supplied with enough power to operate a more powerful LED. You risk overheating something - probably the current-limiting resistor is series with the LED (which may require only 2 volts or so, depending on colour).
