What is the difference between a optical mouse and wireless mouse?
Those are different technologies.
A wired (old school) mouse it physically connected to the computer.
A wireless mouse talks to a receiver that catches a radio wave from the mouse that tells the computer how it has moved, buttons pressed whatever.

How come my optical mouse dosent work on my computer?
Scan for viruses. There are a few viruses out there that can impair mouse and keyboard operations, so update your antivirus software and then scan your system, just in case.
Make sure you've installed-and are using-the correct and most recent device driver.

Can someone tell me why my optical mouse is working Intermittently?
There's a known issue in drivers at the Microsoft web site. Do all updates: <Start>, <All Programs>, (upper left pane) <Windows Update> and then while at the update site be sure to select custom (not express update) look in the left pane to see if it offers any hardware updates. That sounds like it.
Other than that, try calling tech support on the new mouse. The problem will probably be corrected in you old mouse and you can then return the new one.
