Although Nikon really should include a lens hood with this lens, they don't, so you have to buy one. <br/>It works, is very secure, reverses for storage, and it affords a measure of protection for the lens while it's on the camera.

A lot of people don't believe in lens hoods, as being expensive and unnecessary. Well, wait till you lose that 'great' shot, due to lens flare that you never saw, till you put it on the computer. Opportunity gone, photo gone. This hood has saved me many times - great investment!

After using my lens on vacation and having a difficult time keeping sun flare off the lens, I finally decided to buy this product. Just completed doing an outdoor wedding and the sun was all over the place, and this hood did exactly what is supposed to do. Didn't ruin one shot because of sun flares. I purchased this Camera Lens Hood cover and yes it's a good sturdy plastic material and it works great! i have a canon eos rebel t2i and it fits on there perfectly even with a filter lens intact.
