Other Thoughts:Really like this hood, prevents parasite side light to enter the lens. It s really small so you can let it on the lens when you put the camera in your bag.
Cons: not possible to use it with a polarizer because you cannot rotate the filter, or you have to be really patient.
Other Thoughts:*CRINGE* I dropped my camera with lens attached the other day. It wasn't far (about 3-4 feet), but it landed on the lens hood (which took the impact). Granted the hood shattered, but it absorbed a huge amount of shock and I know saved my camera. The lens didn't fair as well. It still works, but no longer zooms (I've taken it apart and am fixing now).
Moral of the story, yes a lens hood does wonders for blocking out extraneous light from entering the lens, but a lens hood has other functions too.
Other Thoughts:This was a fabulous (and cheap!) buy for our camera. It's done a great job blocking light from the lens so we get a clear picture. It's also protected the lens if there's mist in the air.
