- Other Thoughts: They do strike other than on the box but need an optimal striking not on the box surface and a long, rough striking surface to acomplish this. Be smart ! Go to walmart and buy the same matches that strike on the box for a FRACTION of the cost.

- Other Thoughts: This also allows for storage in special containers for trips or hazardous areas where regular matchboxes cannot survive. I got them for storage outside with my acetylene torches; clearly an unsafe spot for a cardboard box filled with matches.

- Other Thoughts: I bought these for a survival kit i was putting together. I tried them when i got them to make sure they worked. I ran water over about a half dozen of them and let them set for 5 minutes. They still lit. I then ran water over another half dozen and tried lighting them right away. Still no problem. i have to admit that I haven't tried to light them outside yet, though.
