I've had this router for 2 weeks and it has never given me problems. There is signal in every inch of my house, garage, and yard. It is also very easy to upgrade, if you need to even though everything is great right out of the box. It has a removable external antenna, with an RP-SMA connector (most common kind). It also has 4MB of Flash memory so you can install the full version of DD-WRT. A lot of routers come with 2 MB of flash and you have to install the micro version of DD-WRT (which is still awesome). So yea, great router because you can do so much with it. I wish all companies made their products so open ended, instead of stifling innovation and consumer rights through proprietary nonsense.

D-Link's DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router was one of the first gigabit draft-2.0 routers, and it's still one of the best. D-Link has added a number of valuable features via firmware updates, such as USB drive and printer sharing, and a special Wi-Fi guest zone.

Factor in a low price tag plus comprehensive routing and firewall features, and it's no wonder the D-Link DIR-655 is one of our top picks.

The D-Link DIR-655's throughput was very good overall, although certainly better at short range. This 3×3 antenna router also performed well with both the 2×3 and the 3×3 Intel cards.

Housed in a drab matte-white box, the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router won't win any design awards, but it can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or on a wall. You set up the DIR-655 through its web utility; thanks to the utility's straightforward wizards, we had no problem getting connected. The single USB port on the rear supports flash or hard drives and printers (including multifunction devices).

Drive sharing is easy, but limited by the fact that only one Windows computer (Macs aren't supported at all) can access the drive at a time through a special system tray application. If someone is using a drive and forgets to log out, other users on the network won't be able to access it at all.

From out-of-the-box to fully functional took less than 10 minutes. Very impressed with the ease of set up. My existing wireless enabled devices latched on almost immediately (even my Chumby!) + with my new Wireless-N card performance (throughput and signal strength) was better than I've ever seen before. Count me as one very happy user.

I have never owned a product from buffalo, but read only good things about them. Blog friendly website can be handy if you run around the forums.Small, Gigabit Switch, Fast. The unit itself is reasonably small, width and length are about same as a DVD case and its as thick as your thumb. Gigabit switch may come in handy when I build my desktop. I average about 270mbps everywhere, no complaints there.
