This cable worked right out of the box to connect my old Laserjet 5 to an HP Pavillion desktop. No drivers were needed. The documentation stated that the product came with a CD with a driver, but it did not and none was needed. That raised some questions at installation and I was delighted to find that the company had instant chat support available and that was really great.

I upgraded to an HP Pavilion (Windows XP) without a parallel printer port. My old Epson Color Stylus 400 inkjet still works great so I didn't want to be forced to buy a new printer, I don't need one. I ordered this cable after reading the reviews. It seems people have problems because a) it doesn't plug directly into the printer in most cases, but rather, into the printer cable, and b) they didn't read the instructions to set the printer port to USB virtual printer. I did both, turned on the printer and it worked perfectly first time. Very satisfied. The only slight negative might be the cable itself doesn't seem very robust, but if you don't strain it, it should be fine. Otherwise, works perfectly!
