This USB To Com Adapter is great! Right out of the box I copied the contents of 2 old IDE drives to a couple of flash drives. A check of the contents indicated that the copies were perfect.

I also fooled around a bit with a couple of older laptop SATA drives and had no problems reading everything.

I love things that work, and this USB To Com Adapter works well! Build quality is pretty good and you have to love the drive activity and status lamps!

All in all, not a bad bang for the buck!

This is a great RS232 Adapter Cable to have around the workbench - at work or home, if you work with a lot of different hard drives and don't want to be bothered with external drive cases. Power connectors are integrated and, based on what you're connecting, requires just a switch flick for operation. It's great that it's so small.

The device worked great; it was exactly what I needed; it works exactly per the instructions, and saved me a massive
data base reconstruction effort. Very very useful.

Everybody who works on computers should own one of these adapters. I've gone through a pile of the things over the years and have used several brands - this Startech is my favorite to date. The most common point of failure in these adapters is the power brick. If you plan to use the adapter regularly, buy a higher quality one like this Startech which has a beefier ac adapter with separately switched leads for the 4 pin and sata power connectors. The data connectors are of very good quality as well and the device has connection/busy status LEDs.
