How to Test a Laptop AC Adapter:
Package Included:
Be sure to check with your airline so you know what type of plug they have, and whether the aircraft you'll be flying on has power plugs installed.
The TSA requires that you remove your laptop from your carryon and put it in a bin at the security checkpoint, so be prepared for that.
Actually this is a common problem and to further agrivate the problem its not just the tip that is probably getting hot so a little fan may not be that much help to you, this problem I believe is caused by the notebooks increased power requirements when the battery begins to degrade become higher and the chinsy connectors used for many of models are not rated at the higher current draw, the problem is most apparent in the lattitude 1000 series but I hear there are several laptops that had this problem. Eventually the jacks solder joints weaken and break due to this, the only thing that worked for me was dissassembeling the laptop and installing a much hardier barrel jack but for most this shouldn't be attempted (a notebook is infinately more complicated to take apart then a desktop), in yrou case a new battery may be in order or better yet see.
Leaving the adapter in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the adapter pack.Always try to keep the adapter between 15 and 25 .A device with a hot or adapter may not work temporarily, even when the new adapter is fully charged.adapter performance is particularly limited in temperatures well below freezing.Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode.adapter may also explode if damaged.
