How long does the battery last?
As a matter of fact, when new and fully charged, the battery provides up to 8 or 12 hours of battery life, depending on your model.

How can I tell that my rechargeable battery will soon be flat?
That is no problem with devices with a charge state display, which most mobile phones have. However, without a charge state display there is no way to tell if you have reached the so-called device shutdown voltage at which your device ceases operation. Unlike ordinary batteries, rechargeable batteries give the same output over the entire discharge time, but then come "to the end" somewhat suddenly. It is therefore advisable to always have a second fully charged battery ready for use.

Should the cells get hot when charging?
No. They may become warm, but not really hot. If they do get hot, they have either been overcharged or are defective. A good charger detects the sudden rise in temperature and switches itself off. A good charger for a mobile phone battery has a thermoswitch that turns off the charging function at around 70°C and thus prevents overcharging and overheating.
