How to Set Up VoIP Phones
- VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) -- or the Internet phone -- is helping the traditional landline phone vanish as computer-based devices increasingly dominate communications. Using VoIP is much less expensive than using standard phones and the connections are constantly being improved. Setting up a VoIP does not need technological know-how. Try this set up and be ready to call anywhere in the world
- Shut down any programs that are running on your computer and insert the installation CD from your phone into the computer
- Launch the installation wizard from the CD to install the phone driver. Advance through the wizard by clicking on the "Next' button on the bottom of the screen and change whatever options you need
- Wait for the driver to install and eject the CD. Connect the phone to your computer by the USB cable
- Click on the "Start" menu and select "All Programs." Choose the "USB Phone" folder from "All Programs" and click on the "USB Phone" icon
- Click on the small arrow on the drop-down menu that appears. Look through the options for the phone software with which you want to connect
- Launch your VoIP software and open "Audio" settings in the Start menu. Choose "USB Audio Device" to connect the phone

The phone does appear and install (and works) without the driver installed, however (the first reviewer stated this as well) the ringer is not that loud. UNLESS you install the driver software, then it is actually VERY loud. And also the buttons do not work on the phone until you install the driver (which integrates perfectly into XP and Skype).

This thing works constantly, consistently and has good sound quality. The feel is a bit light; but heck; I use it with a laptop; so light is good.

This phone was recognized as an audio device by WinXP from the minute it was plugged in. I never did install the Skype helper software, because it just worked. Besides, these days I The sound is fine, though I wish the ringer were louder and the cord longer.

I installed the driver via a download, as I use a Mac and only the Windows driver was included. I had no problem using the handset using Skype. I also had crystal clear sound using it on Google Voice, though I couldn't use the buttons for that due to a lack of a driver. Really the keys aren't much of an issue because it's probably easier to just use the program, but it's nice to be able to use the "end" button. It has a cord that's at least 6' long, so you can stray a bit from the computer whilst talking.

I just followed the directions and everything ran perfectly. My friends are happy that they can now hear me far better than with my microphone! I love this phone and for the price I am very pleased. I would highly recommend it to any Skype user!

i have used mine in talking vis skype. it was developed with the site in mind works very well. little or no hassle. i keep mine pluged in as several friends play music while getting ready for the day. some will stop for a brief conversation with me.

The dialing ability, Touch Tone functioning (to check messages, go thru menus etc). I bought several in Nov 09 and found this the best for Audio Quality, Dialing Efficiency (Yes it is corded but the dialing like a regular phone is still a plus) - so you don't have to use the mouse/monitor to navigate and get suuccesful dialing. Have tested the phone from overseas and works perfectly

Had to wade thru a little to understand the dialing process and step thru the phone list (needs a little learning to ensure you can use the dialing feature so you can simply dial the number like a regular phone. Instr Manual (was just the packaging carton as I recall) not much of use Price was only $14 + Has gone up since then

This VOIP phone is a good value for the money; it is exactly as described. Windows Vista recognized it instantly when plugged into a Dell Inspiron laptop (via Gigaware hub). Sound is sufficiently loud, the echo is cancelled on Skype, it rings nicely when a call comes in, and it has already survived several drops to the hardwood floor. It's easy to use compared to a headset for non-video calls.

How to Use Your USB Phone and Speakers at the same time?
Left to its own devices, Windows will normally choose the last USB audio device you plugged into your computer as the default audio device for your whole system. But you may want to use your USB phone for Skype audio only, while using your computer's speakers for music and other non-skype audio.
We recommend specifically selecting the USB device(phone, adapter, headset) you want to use for Skype conversations, separate from your default Windows audio device(typically your sound card)
In Windows --> Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Audio --> Sound playback, select your sound card as Default device.
In Skype --> Tools --> Options --> Sound Devices, select "USB Audio Device" for Audio in and Audio out.

Can my USB Phone line use Bluetooth accessories?
You can use any bluetooth headset provided that your computer recognizes bluetooth products as a sound device. Simply choose the "Switch to Headset" option on the USB Phone Service menu.

What type of internet service should I have?
We recommend using your new USB phone service with our galaxy residential DSL lines. However, any of the following options will also work with your new service:Broadband, Cable Internet, and Wi-Fi.
