How to Extend an SATA Hard Disk Drive Connection on the System Board?
- SATA (Serial-ATA) connections on the system board (motherboard) are used to connect optical devices and disk storage devices such as CD drives, DVD drives and hard disks to the computer. Occasionally, reach will be a problem with traditional SATA cables because of the architecture of the computer case or the motherboard. To extend your SATA connection you will need to use a bridging cable
Instructions:
- Turn your computer off and unplug it from the wall
- Remove the two screws located on the rear right of the machine and slide off the right-hand panel
- Locate your SATA connector and attach the male end of the extender to the motherboard
- Attach your regular SATA cable to the female end of the extender cable
- Plug the other end of the normal SATA connector to your SATA device
Package Included:
- 1 x 12 in Serial ATA SATA 7 Pin Extension Cable for CDRW DVD

03-19-2009- Other Thoughts: The item worked out of the box without any problems, and this is the only reason for why I gave it a 4. However it looks very cheap. The plastic is not very sturdy, the connections doesn't look able to take the stress over a very long period of time and the cables I think are the cheapest possible out there. On top of this the USB cable is too short, which for me it is a little nuisance. I saw reviewers saying that they used the product for over a year and it works fine. I just hope it will last that long for me too. I would advice though to look for something more realible if you get a chance. Overall seems a good product.

03-19-2009- Other Thoughts: This product works great! Didn't have any issues at all. For those running XP, the only thing to remember is to power up the drive before you connect the USB port. Excelent for system recovery actions and backups
