What Is a PCI Serial Controller?
- Serial controllers connect modems, data terminals and computers to the motherboard using a serial port. Serial ports were common until around 1998, when the faster USB and FireWire ports became well-established
- Definition: PCI, which stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect, is an input/output peripheral bus standard. PCI uses buses as pathways that connect peripheral devices like the keyboard, mouse, monitor and printer to the motherboard
- Function: PCI serial controllers use the PCI bus to provide a data path between the central processing unit and an external device. Although serial ports work at low speeds, they can be useful for connecting older devices to a motherboard
- Components: A PCI serial controller is composed of a printed circuit board with two rows of gold "feet," or pins, that connect to a slot on the motherboard. A row of small capacitors near these pins filters out noise

05-13-2012- Pros: Great price, easy installation.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: I needed to install a larger capacity hard drive in ma Win98SE system. This card did the trick. NOTE: When installing, Win98SE did not accept any of the drivers on the included disc. The accepted driver was downloaded from the "Silicon Image" Web site. It is the: "SIL 0680 ULTRA-133 MEDLEY ATA RAID CONTROLLER."

04-06-2011- Other Thoughts: worked perfect for what i need. a specific console requires these to flash the software... this did exactly that, installs in a breeze, just make sure you use the back most (closest to computer front face) sata connection when doing this modification.

04-29-2009- Other Thoughts: I've used this product in two machines now and it works great for setting up small office servers. I have one running on an XP Pro machine and using it for a Web and FTP server. It works flawlessly. Great product for a person on a budget.

06-20-2011- Other Thoughts: I'm not sure about the problems others here had.
I plugged the card in a pci slot.
Booted up computer.
XP recognized it and asked for the drivers.
Drivers installed and it worked fine.
I have 2 500 gig WDs slaves hooked to it and they are working fine.
My Master drive is a sata.
I had 2 ATA IDE drives from my old system that I wanted to add to my new computer.

- What is a Ultra ATA/133?
The fastest Ultra ATA/133 interface upgrade solution for PC computers. Add performance to your computer with this dual channel Ultra ATA/ 133 card. This card automatically identifies and configures driver type and can share interrupts with most PCI cards.
- What is advantage of the PCI controller card?
This card is a stand-alone 100/133 PCI to IDE/ATA host controller. It is the perfect single chip solution for designs based on chipsets without an integrated IDE host controller or designs which need to expand the number of IDE channels to accommodate the growing number of storage peripherals with IDE interface.
- Why windows installation won't detect hard drive on PCI IDE controller card?
This happens when your XP is unable to identify your mobo's IDE chip. Some new chipsets like intel 965 cannot be installed without XP SP2 / SP3. Try to slipstream the new mobo drivers into your XP installation. Prepare a new XP CD and then try to install. That should work.
