    Lithium Ion Battery Advantages:

    • Energy Output. Lithium-ion batteries store more power than other rechargeable batteries, according to Greenbatteries.com. On average, rechargeable Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) or Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries that offer 1.2volts of energy are outdone by Lithium-ion batteries of the same weight and size with an output of 3.7volts. The electrochemical potential of lithium-ion batteries provides the largest energy density by weight according to Isidor Buchmann, CEO of Cadex Electronics Inc. of Canada.
    • Long Storage Life. During storage, NiCd and NiMH batteries can loose 1 to 5 percent of their stored power each day, even when not installed in electronic devices. Lithium-ion batteries tend to retain their energy, even after months of storage. Lithium-ion batteries are preferred for travel for this reason. Many sets of batteries can be prepared before the trip and even the last set will be fresh and ready to go after days of storage.
    • Low Maintenance. Since lithium-ion batteries retain no "memory" of power from previous charging cycles, they can be fully re-fueled during a charging cycle. Some rechargeable battery types retain small pieces of information that waste valuable energy storage space and over time make the rechargeable battery hold less of a charge. Storing lithium-ion batteries with at least a 40 percent charge is recommended by Cadex Electronics Inc. of Canada. This adds years to the usual two- to three-year life span of the battery.
    • Environmentally Friendly. Since lithium-ion batteries can be used repeatedly, they create less waste than standard disposable batteries that are tossed in the garbage after depletion. Once lithium-ion batteries have expired, simply place them on a lithium-ion battery charger and allow them to be re-filled with power. After years of use, or when a lithium-ion battery is damaged, it can be recycled. Since lithium-ion batteries contain no liquid electrolyte, there is no risk of chemical burns from a damaged battery

How to Maximize Lifespan of Any Rechargeable Battery:

    • Break in the battery. Every time you buy a new rechargeable battery (or new device with one build it) you should break it in. Each rechargeable battery that comes out of the factory has already a partial charge one it. What you should do is to charge the battery all the way up before first use. Do not even turn on the device; just plug it in and let it charge.
    • Discharge your battery completely. Unfortunately you will not be able to do it with all batteries, like car batteries (at least it is not a good idea). Then there are laptop batteries. If the battery is near dead and you boot your laptop it can die completely in mid boot which can cause problems with your computer. Use your judgment on that one. Use a flash light if you need to discharge AA, AAA, D or C batteries.
    • Repeat. Redo step 1 and 2 total of three times. More times you repeat the steps the better. Unfortunately you will not be able to do this all the time with all batteries; like cell phone batteries. You do not want it to die when you need it. However, AA, AAA, D and C batteries can be discharged easily.
    • Keep them running strong. It is always a good idea to completely discharge any rechargeable battery before you charge it back up. AA, AAA, D and C batteries along with any camcorder and camera batteries can be easily discharged with no harm to the device. Save your laptop battery. Laptops are made to be portable and used form place to place. However, if you use your laptop as a stationary computer and always have it plug in there is a way to save your battery. Most laptops are designed to run without battery being plugged in. So, run your battery to the ground, unplug it and turn your laptop back on.
    • The reason for this is because when laptop battery is plugged in, the power goes to the battery first and than to the rest of the laptop. So, the battery is being constantly charged and discharged at the same level.
    • Do not expect too much. Even if you use best battery practices your battery will eventually become useless; as it will not charge fully or hold the charge for long. You will have to replace any rechargeable battery in about two years or so, if you use it on daily bases; like cell phone or laptop

  • Other Thoughts: I received these batteries yesterday. Wanted to try them out, so I charged them and let them cool after charge. I used the ultrafire charger as I have other 18650 batteries that work ok. Would recommend buying these batteries.

00:00:00 04-26-2011 nice Overall:
  • Other Thoughts: I bought these batteries for the Fenix TK 11 flashlight. They are really good batteries. The only downside is they take 12 hours to charge. With this particular flashlight the batteries last 2.5-3 hrs at the brightest setting. The charger allows you to charge two at a time which is nice. I recommend buying the 2 pack if you are a moderate user.
