- What is the difference between a battery charger and battery maintainer?
A battery charger just charges the battery, a maintainer helps keep the charge in the battery while its not being used or is in storage, they do work good, but you have to have a good battery to start with. Other wise, it won't actually charge a battery up, all it will do is help maintain what voltage the battery already has in it, good luck.
- How can I tell if my battery charger is working properly?
If you have a voltmeter, check voltage before turning on the charger. Then re-check with charger on. You will get 3-5 volts difference, depending on the charger and battery. If it is a small charger, after turning it on, remove a charger clamp and scratch it across the battery post. You will see the sparks. Don't do this after the charger has been on for a while, as there is the danger of blowing up the battery because of the explosive gases coming of as a result of charging.
- Will this charger work on my battery even tho its not the same voltage?
So long as the output of charger is equal to or higher than the battery's, then it'll be fine.
