How to Use a Car Charger for a Cell Phone:
Using a car charger is a basic part of cell phone maintenance; car chargers are handy in a pinch, especially for people who use their cars regularly throughout the day. Knowing how to use the charger--and what to do with it when it's not in use--can help keep your cell and car batteries in good working order.
- Locate your phone's charging port. Consult your manual if you need to, but in general, charging ports are located either on the side or the bottom of the phone. There may be a protective plastic piece on a hinge; remove it gently with the phone end of the charging cord.
- Plug the phone end into your cell phone. The plug should go in easily and sit in place securely. If it does not, you may have inserted it incorrectly.
- Locate your car's electric outlet. In general, these are located on the center console, near or beneath the temperature control. In older cars (or in "smoker" models of new cars), the outlet will be marked by a black plastic button with a picture of a cigarette. In newer cars, the ports generally are covered by a snap-on plastic lid.
- Remove the cigarette lighter, if there is one.
- Insert the large, rounded end into the electrical outlet. Your phone should start charging, though some cars must be on or in accessory mode for the outlet to work.
- Look at the handle of the large, rounded end. Many chargers have lights to indicate that power is flowing through the charger
Tips & Warnings
- Unplug the charger when it's not in use. Leaving it plugged in, even if it's not charging anything, will drain your car battery. Buy a charger with anti-overcharging safeguards.
- If you're having trouble inserting the charger into the phone, ensure that the two are compatible. Two similar phones, even phones by the same manufacturer, may take different chargers.
- Alternate between using your wall charger and car charger. Using your car charger continuously can diminish your phone battery's life.
How to Convert a Car Charger to a Tool Charger:
- Connect the power inverter to your car's cigarette charger.
- Connect your tool charger to the power inverter using the AC outlet on the other side of the inverter.
- Turn on the car. This will power the inverter and charge your tool.
Tips & Warnings
- Watch voltage levels. Most cars cannot power anything that requires more than 120 volts.
- Since you consume fuel while charging, it's best to do this only when there is no other way to charge your tools.

02-07-2011- Other Thoughts: I bought this adapter for my phone charger which has a USB wire. I love how it's small and easy to pack and take anywhere. The size and great performance make it a great buy.

01-18-2011- Other Thoughts: This device works as expected - no issues at all.

I do think the body is bigger than it should be, and can be reduced by 50% or more, with essentially a "stub" containing the USB port.

Still this is priced right and works.

02-21-2011- Other Thoughts: Considering that i got the item for a very low price, i shouldn't be complaining.
But it would have been handy, it it had come with 2 USB points / or a USB splitter and a USB extension chord.

I haven't had any extensive use of the piece, so can't write too much more. Might come back to write more later.

03-29-2011- Other Thoughts: Worth the money. This is the second set I have purchased. However, I use it to power my laptop fan and it works continuous and works great. I am not sure how it would suit to charge an i-phone or other devices.

The point is, if it for lighting and general use- This is a great item.

If it is for a specific device use. I would not suggest this.
