Some transmitters are made ONLY for an iPod/iPhone and have a special connector that hooks into the data port of those devices.
These transmitters won't work with your Sansa. But unless the packaging indicates it's ONLY for iPod, then it should work. Sales folks at your local consumer electronics store or department should be able to help you tell the difference. Just remember to keep your receipt so you can return the item if it doesn't do what you need it to.
Find a radio statio that has static or no sound and set the transmitter that that station, turn on the iPod and it should play fine.
You plug the input into where the headphones should go and then you have to make sure your iPod is not on hold, that it is playing, and that the volume is up. The FM transmitter will not turn on if it can't hear your ipod.
Then you have to make sure the FM transmitter is plugged in and turn it on. Then you have to choose a station on the transmitter (i usually use 99.1 because there is nothing else broadcasted on that station) and then tune your radio to that station.
