DisplayPort:

• DisplayPort is a digital display interface standard produced by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). It defines a royalty-free, digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display, or a computer and a home-theater system
• The first version was approved in May 2006, version 1.1a was approved on April 2, 2007, and version 1.2 (current as of 2011[update]) was approved on December 22, 2009
• DisplayPort is designed to replace digital (DVI) and analog component video (VGA) connectors in computer monitors and video cards, as well as replace internal digital LVDS links in computer monitor panels and TV panels. DisplayPort can provide the same functionality as HDMI but is not expected to displace HDMI in high-definition consumer electronics devices
• In December 2010 it was announced that several computer vendors and display makers including Intel, AMD, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung and LG would stop using LVDS from 2013 and legacy DVI and VGA connectors from 2015, replacing them with DisplayPort and HDMI

How to Connect a Display Port by HDMI:

You can use the Mini DisplayPort featured on the your Mac computer to connect the video card to an HDMI-enabled TV or monitor. The DisplayPort on your computer enables you to watch your digital videos and Web content on an external monitor or TV. As of 2011, the DisplayPort also supports audio streams for transmission over the HDMI interface so you can send sound and video over a single cable

• Find the DisplayPort on your Mac. The port is square in shape, and features a small icon of a display next to it
• Insert the small end of the DisplayPort adapter into the port on your Mac
• Insert one side of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the display adapter. Insert the opposite side of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the rear of your TV or monitor. Your Mac will immediately begin sending the video feed via the HDMI cable to your TV
