How to Wake Up On Time:

Do you have trouble waking up on time in the mornings despite desperate attempts to do so? Are you afraid you might lose your job or fail a class because you can't get up on time? While most people can simply set an alarm clock and get up at the desired time, almost everybody has trouble rousing themselves at some point, and many people frequently sleep through their alarms. If you're chronically late for work, or if you just need to make sure you don't miss your flight early tomorrow morning, read onGet enough sleep
- It's hard to drag yourself out of bed after one night of inadequate sleep, and chronic sleep deprivation (a sleep deficit) makes the task even harder. Determine how much sleep you need and make sure to get about that amount each night. At a bare minimum, when waking up on time is crucial, you should try very hard to go to sleep for at least eight hours, even if you have otherwise restful sleep patterns. Your body can't "store" sleep
Get into a rhythm
- Your body's clock follows a circadian rhythm. If your rhythm is set properly, you may be able to regularly wake up refreshed without an alarm, but if it's not you'll wake up groggy or even sleep through your alarm altogether. Make an effort to get to bed and to get up at about the same times every day. If you work changing shifts or otherwise have to adjust your schedule, your rhythm will be thrown off for a while, but you can reset it over a few days
Adjust for your sleep cycles
- The typical human sleep cycle is 90 minutes. Adjust the time you wake up or the time you go to bed so that you sleep for some multiple of 90 minutes (6, 7.5 or 9 hours, for example), and you'll wake up more refreshed
Get the right alarm clock
- Some people need a very loud, harsh alarm, some can't wake up to the radio, and some find that gradual waking works best. There are even many varieties of alarms to stick near you that will vibrate to awaken you, including a vibrating pillow, wrist band, and devices that clip on to your pillow or go between your mattresses. Experiment to find the alarm clock that's best for you and your neighbor(assuming you want to be respectful of course!)
Position your alarm clock so that you have to get out of bed to turn it off
- It's quite common to reach over to the nightstand, turn off the alarm, and go back to sleep without even remembering doing so. If you have to get out of bed and walk across the room, however, you're more likely to stay awake
Brighten up your bedroom
- The body naturally wakes up faster when it's light outside, so keep your curtains open to use the sun to help you awake. If you need to wake up when it's dark, or if you live in a dreary, cloudy place, consider using a timer on your bedroom lamp or getting a light box or a bedside dawn simulator
- Use a very loud alarm like the windup clock pictured above. Place the clock inside a kitchen pot or other metal container turned upside down. Or sleep with headphones on so you get the jolt awake without disturbing others
Tips:
- If all else fails, just put your alarm clock away from your bed, and extra loud. You wont be able to sleep, if you don't get up
- After setting your alarm clock, put it in a box, lock it with a key and put the key in the farthest corner of the house. You should be awake by the time you get it unlocked to turn it off
- Splash your face with cold water. The cold water will wake you up, and you can get a move on from there
- Make sure that your alarm is properly set before going to bed
- Make sure to remember all the reasons you need to get right out of bed
- Try putting a slice of lemon next to your alarm, when you shut off your alarm, lick or suck on the lemon. That'll wake you up for sure
How to Set a Wind Up Alarm Clock:

Wind up alarm clocks are charming. The sound they make--tick, tock, tick, tock--is strangely comforting. You can use them anywhere and you don't have to recharge them. If you're concerned that the electricity might go off while you sleep, and you absolutely, positively cannot be late for your morning appointment, use a wind up alarm clock. It will tick, tock right through a power outage and ring its alarm to wake you up on time
- Look at the back of the clock. There will be two buttons and two wind-up keys
- Set the clock time. Use the button labeled "clock" to move the hands to set the clock to the current, correct time
- Wind the clock. Use the wind-up key labeled "clock," and turn it clockwise until it stops. Once it stops, do not force it to turn or it will break
- Set the alarm. Use the button labeled "alarm" to move the third, smaller than the other two clock hand to set the alarm. If you want the alarm to go off at 7:00, move the small hand so it is exactly on the number 7. If you want the alarm to go off at 7:30, move the small hand so it is half way between numbers 7 and 8
- Wind the alarm. Use the wind-up key labeled "alarm." Turn it clockwise until it stops. Do not try to force it to turn any further
- Activate the alarm. On almost every wind up alarm clock the alarm is set by pulling out the button that is used to set the time the alarm will go off (see Step 4). On some models, there is a separate button, usually labeled "alarm," which should be pulled out to set the alarm

02-14-2011- Other Thoughts: I love this Flying Alarm Clock. It's the only alarm clock to succeed in waking me up. The propeller does fly off in different directions and the alarm is extremely loud.

However, I think it lasted two weeks before breaking. The other reviews are right. Too much pressure breaks this alarm clock fast. It's very, very fragile. Considering it's wailing siren, and your dimly awake brain when you use it, I'm surprised this thing lasted two weeks.

02-05-2011- Other Thoughts: different type of clock. Gave it for a Christmas present. Works pretty well, but if I had one complaint, it is that it only uses batteries out of the box. It has a socket for an AC adapter, but adapter is not included. Will need to replace batteries eventually.

02-03-2011- Other Thoughts: And, after all that effort (assuming you can figure it out!) the take-off helicopter sound is so light there is no way it would wake up a sleeping human.
The helicopter blades are fun when they launch, but really only goes about 2 feet in the air then drop right back down -- don't really 'fly around the room' as advertised.

Was definitely gullible on this one.

01-25-2011- Other Thoughts: My son loved this but upon using it for the first time it broke. The mechanism that holds the propeller in place is very fragile and broke rendering the propeller inoperable. I had read several reviews and hoped that we would not be in the same boat but I should have listened. It is loud and it is fun but not good for every day use. The LED Alarm Clock actually goes off for several seconds before the propeller flys. My son decided to see if he could turn the alarm off before the propeller took off but touching it while it was spinning broke the plastic that holds the propeller. I have returned it to Dinodirect and am currently waiting for my refund.

01-15-2011- Other Thoughts: When this Digital Alarm Clock goes off, I'm sure it wakes up our next door neighbors too. Incredible wailing siren reminiscent of an air raid. Great for getting my kid out of bed though. Kinda tough putting the propeller back on when all you want to do is smash it after finally finding it under the bed. Wish that it was back lit all the time too as it's tough to see the digital screen in reg.light/dark.

01-04-2011- Other Thoughts: Have trouble getting up in the morning? Then the Flying Alarm Clock may just be the product for you. For me, however, it was not. The clock works simply enough: the base has a motor that spins the top part at a designated time, causing the top to fly up for a few seconds. When positioned on my nightstand, it would always fly up and land on my wife's face (not good). When I tried putting it on the carpet on the opposite side of the room, I learned that the speaker is on the bottom of the base, and placing it on the carpet makes the alarm inaudible (very not good). The base is elevated, so there is no problem hearing the alarm when it is set on a hard, flat surface.

01-01-2011- Other Thoughts: This is a cool concept, and when it actually did what it's supposed to do (before it broke), it did a great job of getting me out of bed in the morning. The problem is that the area in which you're supposed to place the propeller is too fragile. If you don't press down, the Flying Alarm Clock doesn't shut off, and if you press too hard (too hard being moderate pressure; I do not have concrete hands), the parts that spin the propeller break.
