Purpose of a Balaclava:
A balaclava is a knitted hat designed to cover the head, neck and part of the face. It's used in extreme weather and for sports such as car racing, mountain climbing and skiing.- Appearance of the Balaclava: There's an opening for the face in a balaclava and you can either wear it so that only the eyes are visible or pull it down so that the mouth is exposed. They come in various colors and are very similar to other knitted hats

- Other Uses for Balaclavas: Because it's hard to recognize anyone wearing a balaclava, it's common to see criminals wearing them as disguises during robberies. Race car drivers also wear balaclavas underneath their helmets to protect them from fires
- History of the Balaclava: Soldiers began wearing the balaclava in the 1800s and back then they called it a balaclava helmet. Its name is taken from a village in Crimea during the Crimean War. It was used for protection and to keep warm as it is today

- Styles of Balaclavas: There are other styles of balaclavas available that include a separate hole for the mouth. This is a personal preference because some people like to be able to cover the mouth completely. Of course on milder days the hat can also be pulled back over the face and worn like any other hat

- Benefits of Balaclavas: A balaclava helps keep people warm and prevents frostbite in winter weather. It also makes it easier to see when walking in a blizzard and it's much more enjoyable.
- Other Names for Balaclava. A balaclava is also known as a ski mask, balaclava helmet or hat

04-23-2011- Other Thoughts: This Balaclava hat lasts for hours and fit nicely in most helmets where there's usually a void for our ears. Additionally the warmers don't fit snug enough to block sound, but do help to baffle the buffeting at high speeds.

05-02-2011- Other Thoughts: This is a great balaclava hat! I purchased this for my son who is only 19 months. It is a little big but he can grow in to it. The size of the hole is perfect and keeps his little cheeks warm. I also like that the bottom is longer and really keeps his neck warm.

04-27-2011- Other Thoughts: Bought this Balaclava hat two years ago and my son still loves it. It is so durable for my very active son. He wears it as a costume, dress up, and on very cold days.Sometimes he gets to hot in the hat (We are not skiers)so I think it would be very comfortable for snow in the mountains.

04-20-2011- Other Thoughts: When I saw this Balaclava hat I had a good feeling that it would help kill the chill of winter riding. How can you go wrong with HotHands next to each ear? Well it hasn't gotten cold enough to put it to a real test, but upper 40s were completely tolerable. In the 50's and low 60's it's downright comfortable. I recommend this product and definitely get a box of warmers.

04-11-2011- Other Thoughts: The north wind was kicking in pretty fiercely to go with the snow. I couldn't really pop down to the local outdoor store without freezing, so I used the power to get this overnighted to me. It's a fine, polar fleece-style balaclava -- warm, lightweight, and more breathable than wool. Nice Balaclava hat!
