How to Change Belly Button Rings:
- Changing a belly button ring for the first time can be a little difficult. Since it can take three to 12 months for a belly button, or navel, piercing to heal, it will be awhile before you may change your piercing safely. After your belly button piercing has throughly healed, you may begin to think about changing your belly button ring
- While your piercing is healing, you can shop for belly button rings. There are several to choose from including rings, barbells, dangling jewelry and even plastic place holders for pregnant bellies, or for those who need to get an abdominal B-ray. Be sure to know the gauge, or thickness, of your original jewelry, so you can purchase the correct size of new jewelry
- When your piercing begins to spin freely, has no healing crust around the piercing site and is free of any infection or swollen tissue, you are ready to change your belly button ring
- Clean the belly button area before changing the piercing for the first time. You don't want to accidentally introduce bacteria into the newly healed piercing site. During a shower, wash the area with soap and water. Carefully rotate the piercing so the entire piece of jewelry can be washed. Allow water and soap to flow into the belly button, and rinse thoroughly
- After your shower, lay down so you can get clear access to your belly button. Have your new piece of jewelry ready. Be sure the new piece of jewelry has been sanitized, or clean it gently by soaking it in rubbing alcohol
- Carefully begin removing your old belly button ring by unscrewing the ball that is holding it in place. Set the ball to the side, and take out the piercing. Put it to the side to be cleaned. Carefully apply a small dab of antibiotic ointment to your belly button piercing site. This will help prevent any infection when inserting a new piece of jewelry
- Thread the new piece of jewelry through your belly button and secure with the ball or end pieces. Some jewelry doesn't require a closure piece, such as u-shaped jewelry. After you have changed your belly button ring, keep an eye on he piercing site for signs of irritation or infection. If the area gets hot or itchy, apply some antibiotic ointment. If it does no t heal in a day or two, see your doctor to treat the infection
How to Clean a Belly-Button Ring:
- Wash your hands with liquid disinfectant soap. Use hot water and make sure to remove any dirt from under your nails
- Clean your belly-button ring by running warm water over the piercing. After a few seconds, use a Q-tip to remove any crust or buildup around the piercing. Gently move the jewelry around to release any debris and loosen any skin that has attached to the ring during healing
- Apply special disinfectant cleaning solution (sold by most piercing shops). Apply a generous amount on and around your piercing. Once again, gently move the jewelry around to ensure the cleaning solution works its way inside the pierced skin. Allow the solution to remain on the piercing for a few minutes
- Rinse away the cleaning solution. Rinse your piercing with warm water. Refrain from rubbing or causing any other friction. Ensure all of the solution is washed away by moving your belly-button ring around to work clean water through your piercing
- Dry and repeat. Use a clean paper towel or washcloth to pat dry the belly button and surrounding area. Repeat this cleaning process twice a day while you are healing
- Perform a sea-salt rinse once a day. This will speed the healing time of your belly-button piercing and help reduce irritation. Disinfect your hands before preparing the sea-salt rinse. Fill a clean cup with 8 oz. of warm distilled water. Mix in 1/4 tsp. of salt and stir well. (Do not use more salt, as this could irritate the piercing.) Once the salt dissolves, drench a clean cotton ball with the salt-water mixture and hold it over your piercing for three to five minutes
How to Disinfect Belly Button Rings:

- Wash your hands with soap and water. This is the first step in the process of disinfecting your belly button ring. You don't want to go to the trouble of cleaning the belly button ring only to have bacteria from your hands take hold on the ring while you are piercing yourself or someone else
- Place the belly button ring in a small cup or bowl and cover it with alcohol. Rub the alcohol onto the ring and swish the ring around in the alcohol. The idea is for the alcohol to reach all exposed areas of the belly button ring and kill the bacteria
- Empty the alcohol from the cup or bowl. Repeatedly rinse the belly button ring in sterile water to remove all traces of alcohol from the ring

01-26-2011- Other Thoughts: These rings are amazing! I loved all the colors I received, but I did have problems getting the clear top ball off. However, once its off its completely normal. The gems in a few of the rings rattle but nothing to be concerned about! Bottom line: the best $15 I ever spent for body jewerly.

02-23-2011- Other Thoughts: While not the nicest you can get, they're still quite nice. They were also a bit smaller than I expected, though not actually small. I bought these for my wife as a "stocking stuffer" gift on Valentine's Day. She loves them!
