How to Make Christmas Shoes & Boots Last Longer:

Of all the articles or clothing you wear, footwear probably has it the roughest. Even dress shoes that you only use for special occasions will take a beating during its lifetime, and even the toughest hiking boot will get worn down.
However, you can prolong the life of your shoes or boots by following a regiment of proper care, proper use and proper maintenance. If you treat your shoes right, they can last you a lot longer and give you a lot more mileage for your dollar.Instructions:
- Insert shoe trees into your shoes or boots when not in use. Not only will the wood from the shoe tree absorb moisture, but it will help your shoes or boots maintain their original shape
- Waterproof the outside of your shoes or boots. This will help repel water, which is especially useful for increasing the life of hiking boots or any other shoes that are likely to get wet. There are several different waterproofing systems, although a waterproofing spray may be the easiest
- Dry you shoes or boots if they do get wet. Air-dry your footwear, as drying them under high heat is bad for the material. Footwear that is left wet will become moldy
- Polish your shoes or boots regularly to keep the material in good shape. How you polish will depend on the material. For example, leather shoes or boots should be polished with a soft cloth, while suede shoes should be brushed
- Use a shoehorn when removing or putting on your boots or shoes. This helps prevent wearing out the backs of your shoes
- Rotate your shoes or boots regularly. This is especially important if, for example, you have a pair of boots that you are particularly hard on. Switching to another pair of boots regularly will let the first pair dry out and will stop the material from being worn through too quickly
Tips & Warnings:
- Remember to wear the right shoes for the right occasion. Suede loafers will quickly become ruined in gravel and dirt, whereas leather work boots are designed for it
- Never dry your shoes or boots in a clothes dryer. The combination of high heat and physical trauma of being tumbled around will decrease the life of your footwear

Print this articleDecorating your house for Christmas is a way of creating a cheerful environment for the holiday season. You can make your own Christmas decorations for a personal touch, by using bisque ceramic. Bisque ceramics have been fired in the kiln so they are hard but are not painted or glazed. You can paint a variety of designs on ceramic shapes of your choice. If you have a cowboy boot ceramic shape, you can paint a Santa suit on it. It will make not only a great decoration but can be also be a beautiful giftInstructions:
Paint the entire cowboy boot red and let it dry. Mask the boot, just above the heel with painter's tape. This will protect the boot from being painted when you are painting the heel and sole. Paint the heel and the sole of the cowboy boot with black. Let the paint dry before standing it up on the sole
Use white paint to paint a 1-inch ring around the top of the cowboy boot. This is part of the fur you will be painting to resemble the fur around Santa Claus' suit
Use a fine tipped paintbrush to create a fake fur texture around the bottom of the solid white ring. Dip the paintbrush in white paint. Scrap the hair of the paintbrush onto the side of the paint container to wipe off excess paint. Paint many small lines from the inside of the solid white line onto the red surface of the boot. Have the lines overlapping each other randomly. Do this around the entire bottom of the solid white ring. Once you are finished, you should not see a sharp line, just a fuzzy transition from white to red, resembling fur
Halfway down the cowboy boot, mask a ring around the boot with painter's tape. One inch down from the first ring mask another ring. Paint with black paint between the masked rings. Let the paint dry then remove the masking tape. There will be a black ring around the center of the cowboy boot, resembling Santa's belt
One the outside of the cowboy boot, paint an outline of a yellow rectangle. This will be the buckle for the belt. The rectangle should overlap the width of the belt by 1/4 inch on the top and the bottom. Let the paint dry
Paint over the entire boot with a clear coat acrylic paint. Let the clear coat dry overnight
