How to Wash & Whiten Men's Cotton Underwear:
Men's cotton underwear will begin to look dingy after the items have been worn and washed numerous times. When this occurs, your first thought may be to discard and replace the underwear. You may also consider using bleach to wash and clean the underwear, but doing so could damage the pieces and irritate skin. Using a household liquid to both pre-treat and wash the underwear deodorizes, sanitizes and whitens the items without hurting either the underwear or the wearer's skin.
- Mix approximately 1 cup white vinegar with 5 cups cool water in a bathtub or sink
- Place the men's cotton underwear into the solution
- Soak the underwear for 30 to 60 minutes. Remove the underwear from the solution and place them into your washing machine with no other laundry
- Pour 1 cup of laundry detergent into the washing machine. Add 1 cup of white vinegar into the machine
- Run the machine on a single gentle cycle. Dry the underwear as normal
How to Remove Brown Stains in Briefs:
Laundry stains occur on a variety of garments in various ways. It is common for underwear fabric to become stained over time. Blood, feces and urine are the common causes of stains in underwear. Generally, you cannot simply wash these stains out by laundering as you normally would. However, brown stains do not have to ruin your briefs. Many methods will remove the stains and restore the look of the briefs.Baking Soda
- Rinse the brief thoroughly with cool water
- Sprinkle the brown stain with baking soda. Scrub the baking soda into the stain with a soft scrub brush
- Rinse the briefs in cool water and launder as you normally would
Bleach
- Rinse the briefs in cool water. Apply a pretreat stain remover to the brown stains and allow to sit for 10 minutes
- Fill your washing machine with cool water. Add laundry detergent to the water. Fill the bleach dispenser with the appropriate amount of bleach
- Submerge the briefs in the washing machine and allow the washer to complete a full cycle
Vinegar
- Rinse the briefs in cool water and lay them out flat on a towel
- Saturate a sponge in white vinegar. Blot the stain with the sponge. Start at the edge of the stain and work toward the center
- Launder the item as you normally would
Soaking
- Fill a container with cool water. Add ½ cup of laundry detergent to the water and mix well
- Submerge the briefs in the cool water. Scrub the briefs with itself at the area of the stain
- Allow the briefs to soak in the water-laundry detergent for ½ hour. Launder the briefs as you normally would
