How to Protect the Lens of a Canon:

• The best way to protect the lens is to keep the lens cover on at all times when not filming.
• Attach the lens hood to protect the lens and shade it from unwanted light and unwanted fingerprints.
• Buy and attach a UV filter protect from scratches, dust, fingerprints, and UV rays.
• Avoid exposing the lens to harsh weather conditions or storing near dusty or sandy areas. If filming on the beach, watch out for salt water spray which is extremely corrosive - keep the hood on and use a filter.
• Clean the lens by gently blowing dust from the lens or using a soft, dry cleaning cloth (preferably microfiber) to remove unwanted particles or fingerprints.

How to Remove a Lens Cap:

58mm Lens Cap

A standard lens cover usually comes with a camera. Smaller digital point-and-shoot cameras like Nikon Coolpix or the Canon Powershot typically have lens covers that automatically retract when you click the power button. Larger SLR and digital SLR cameras, like the Canon Rebel, typically have removable lens caps that come with the camera. On these cameras, you will need to remove the lens cap before you can take a picture. Overall, the cap is a valuable asset to a camera, as it protects the lens from getting scratches or dirt on the it when it is not in use.

• Be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you will not be able to drop the lens cap off a cliff or drop it in someone's drink by accident. Take the lens cap off before turning the camera on. Sometimes the lens cap will pop off the camera and damage the cap.
• Grab hold of your camera so that it won't fall out of your hands by placing your right hand under the camera to get a firm grip. You can also put the camera's strap around your neck for security.
• Place your forefinger and the thumb of your free hand around the cap. Many lens caps have two small latches across from each other. If that is the case, press the latches in toward each other.
• Pull off the lens cap and start taking photographs. Put your lens cap somewhere you will remember.
• Replace the lens cap after each use. It will protect your lens from getting dirty or cracked

Tips and Warning:

Camera Lens Ca

• Most smaller cameras have a built-in lens cap. Larger cameras usually have lens caps. Many SLR cameras have different lenses that hook up to the camera. Therefore, you will have two lens caps. Take both off before use and put both on after using the camera. You can buy replacement lens caps from the lens manufacturer or an online camera supply store.
• Do not subject your camera or lens cap to extreme heat.

How to Choose a Camera Lens?

• Decide where you want to shop for your SLR camera lens. Your local photography retail store will allow you the option to touch and try out their lenses. Purchasing online may give you a better bargain than what the retail store offers. Also browse the newspaper for local photographers selling used equipment. They will often let you try before you buy
• Browse camera lenses made by the same company as your camera body. They should offer a series of lenses with a mount that will work specifically with your camera body. Canon, Nikon and Promaster all offer lenses dedicated to their camera bodies. Several electronics manufacturers, such a Promaster, Tamron and Sigma, also offer lenses with varying mounts
• Choose a durable lens. Ask the camera sales associate at your local retail store which brands they sell most. If you plan on using your camera lens on a daily, or even weekly basis, it is best to choose the name-brand lenses, such as Canon, Nikon, Fuji or Pentax. If you are a hobbyist who takes pictures on holidays but goes for months at a time without using your camera, you may want to purchase a lighter-duty lens, such as Tamron or Sigma
• Learn about focal length before you choose your camera lens. Some lenses have a fixed focal length, while others offer a range. These are called zoom lenses. The smaller the focal length of the lens, the wider the angle of view. For example, a 24mm lens will give you a wider view of a scene than an 80mm lens
• Choose a telephoto lens for taking pictures of subjects far away, such as sports and scenery. Select a wide-angle lens when taking pictures in cramped areas, or to get an overview of a scene. Mid-range zoom lenses are a great multipurpose lens that offers the ability to shoot close-ups or wide areas. Choose these lenses for an all-in-one approach
• Choose a macro lens for very close-up photography. Use it to capture small objects or record very fine details. Ditto the need to photograph jewelry, insects and coin collections. Use a tripod with the macro lens to stabilize your camera. This will make your photos sharper

04:53:16 02-28-2012 Good; Just a Pinch Away From Great... Overall:
• Pros: Good quality, Solid Cap,
• Cons: Functional unless using lens hood
• Other Thoughts: Well constructed and works as advertised. Attaches securely to my EOS T2i lenses. Only complaint is that the flanges on the pinch area could be a little 'longer' to provide more surface area for pinching. More difficult to attach to zoom lenses with longer hoods than I'd like to see, but not a show stopper. All in all, a good buy for the money.

00:00:00 08-03-2011 Issue Resolved Overall:
• Other Thoughts: Its a used knock off non-canon cap. They advertize that the cap is genuine Canon. Its not a biggie for me but its just false advertisement.

Update: Received a call from some gentleman called Steve and his eagerness to resolve the issue was great. He told me that the caps come in different types and he would send me another one (the one that is advertised on their link)

• Other Thoughts: This 58mm Lens Cap fits my Canon (T3i) just as well as the original.

I was concerned after reading some earlier reviews about the cap being easy to knock off...but for me, it's a very snug fit and will do the job it was designed to do.

I think I'm going to get a back-up now for the next time I find a way to lose my cap...

00:00:00 06-29-2011 great customer service Overall:
• Other Thoughts: I purchased this Camera Lens Cap as a replacement cap for my Canon Powershot Pro1 camera. Unfortunately, it was completely the wrong size. Don't know why I had just assumed this would fit my tiny lens. Upon contacting the seller about their return policy due to the wrong size, they asked which size I needed. They told me they would send the correct size and to just keep the other one. And I received it a few days later. Thanks for your great service!
