How to Remove a Lens Cap?

A standard lens cover usually comes with a camera. Smaller digital point-and-shoot cameras like Nikon Coolpix or the Canon Powershot typically have lens covers that automatically retract when you click the power button. Larger SLR and digital SLR cameras, like the Canon Rebel, typically have removable lens caps that come with the camera. On these cameras, you will need to remove the lens cap before you can take a picture. Overall, the cap is a valuable asset to a camera, as it protects the lens from getting scratches or dirt on the it when it is not in use- Be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you will not be able to drop the lens cap off a cliff or drop it in someone's drink by accident. Take the lens cap off before turning the camera on. Sometimes the lens cap will pop off the camera and damage the cap
- Grab hold of your camera so that it won't fall out of your hands by placing your right hand under the camera to get a firm grip. You can also put the camera's strap around your neck for security
- Place your forefinger and the thumb of your free hand around the cap. Many lens caps have two small latches across from each other. If that is the case, press the latches in toward each other
- Pull off the lens cap and start taking photographs. Put your lens cap somewhere you will remember
- Replace the lens cap after each use. It will protect your lens from getting dirty or cracked
How to Protect the Lens of a Canon:

- The best way to protect the lens is to keep the lens cover on at all times when not filming
- Attach the lens hood to protect the lens and shade it from unwanted light and unwanted fingerprints
- Buy and attach a UV filter protect from scratches, dust, fingerprints, and UV rays
- Avoid exposing the lens to harsh weather conditions or storing near dusty or sandy areas. If filming on the beach, watch out for salt water spray which is extremely corrosive - keep the hood on and use a filter
- Clean the lens by gently blowing dust from the lens or using a soft, dry cleaning cloth (preferably microfiber) to remove unwanted particles or fingerprints

12-25-2011- Other Thoughts: I had lost the original lens cover and looked at the prices from Nikon. I was shocked at what they wanted for a simple item. I then looked at Dinodirect and was very impressed with the prices and the availability. I ordered the product and I received it within a week. I will always check Dinodirect now before ordering anything on the internet.I am very happy with the entire purchase.

12-12-2011- Other Thoughts: I like this Lens Cover Cap, especially now that I have a tether attached. The only changes I would make to it, is some kind of loop that a tether could be really attached by more that just a sticky foot like my current tether.

12-09-2011- Other Thoughts: It has been a life long goal of mine to write a review of a front lens cap purchased here.

Today I'm fulfilling this goal. I'm quite pleased it is a positive review.

I would suggest you purchase at least 2 or more when you buy them. The shipping is the same and you know you will eventually loose this one too.

11-30-2011- Other Thoughts: The Front Lens Cap fits super tight if put on correctly, but sometimes, if I put it on quickly, it doesn't line up right on my lens. The impression it left is of the exact shape of the moving parts on the cap. The lens still works perfectly but I'm really annoyed. I can't take a star for that because this is the best cover I've ever owned, but it should be noted that double checking that it's on all the way is recommended. There is a picture of the damaged lens and back of cap in the "Customer Images" on the product page. :)
