How to Use Lens Hood in Studio:

    Canon Lens Hood

    • Remove the lens cap from the camera
    • Attach the lens hood to the camera. Lens hoods attach by screwing into, clipping onto, or fitting over the outside of the lens
    • Check the shadow of the lens hood. If direct light is passing into the lens, it will appear as a "lens flare". Adjust the lens hood to block direct light by twisting it on the lens
    • Check the position of the lights, reflectors and subject. Using a lens hood is preferable in a studio situation in which the lights, reflectors, and subject are set up optimally, but light is still directly entering the lens and causing flares. If there is no better orientation for the studio lighting equipment or subject, a lens hood is the best choice to block excess, flaring light

Methods to Clean Mold on Camera Lens:

    • Purchase a cleaning product. These include Clorox Germicidal Spray, Tilex Mildew Remover and 500 PSI Mask Scrub. You can use almost any product that removes mold on glasses or lenses. Read the warning label for the product you choose
    • Rub the lens cloth over the camera lens. Remove any grime or dirt that is present. This will allow you to see the damage more clearly
    • Dip one lens cloth in warm water. Squeeze out any surplus of water. Extra water can seep into the camera if not careful
    • Wipe the lens with the damp cloth. Concentrate on the mold section and any small creases around the camera lens. This will move any remaining dirt
    • Spray or pour a drop of cleaner on the second lens cloth. Polish the camera lens thoroughly. Cover ever part of the mold pores including around any creases
    • Use the third lens cloth to wipe the moisture off. Towel it completely dry. Then store it in a safe, dry location

When to Use a Lens Hood:

    • Lens hoods are used to keep stray light out of your lens. Stray light can cause lens flare and, occasionally, can do harm to your camera or your film. Lens hoods are Ideal for when it is extremely sunny outside; this is really the only time you will ever "need" a lens hood
    • Nightlife photographers often use lens hoods to keep out stray stage and club lights
    • Some enthusiasts prefer to use lens hoods all the time because stray light can occur in unlikely places

How to Find a Lens Hood That Fits Your Camera:

    • To find a lens hood that fits your camera lens, you will need to know the size and the manufacturer of your lens. Note: Sometimes, the manufacturer of your lens can be different from you camera. The size and manufacturer should be clearly stated on the side and/ or front of the lens. If you can't find that information, an expert at a camera store should be able to help
    • In the United States, camera lens sizes, marked on the lens, are measured by millimeters. Some common sizes are 35 mm, 50 mm and 100 mm. Now that you know the size of your lens you should be able to go to your local camera store or shop online and know that a 35 to 135 mm lens hood will fit your 55 mm lens. A lens hood sized at 75 to 135 mm will not work on a 35 mm lens
    • Let's talk about manufacturers. If you have a 35 mm Canon or Nikon lens, a 35-135mm lens hood by the same manufacturer definitely will fit. But if you are on a budget, companies such as Sigma, Tamron and Tokina (to name a few) make lens hoods that are cheaper that should fit bigger-name cameras. Try these lens hoods in person before buying online

I was in the market for a lens hood for my new camera. I was reading some reviews on some copys/knock offs for the canon lens I had. After reading, some people werent happy with the actual product of the copys/knock offs, so I just end up spending a little bit more money and get the real deal. It was a good buy and worth the money.

Good choice!

Nice Hood. The only thing I've noticed that I'm not crazy about is that the inner part of the hood is black velvet, which collects dust, stray hair, lint, etc.

I've used lens hoods on all of my lens since I first started doing pro photography almost 30 years ago. I feel the hoods protect the front of the lens.

Very Good!

Reduces flare and ghosting when shooting in bright light.
Helps protect your lens from dirt and scratches.
Somewhat protects the lens in case of a fall. Better to break the hood than the front element.
Makes you look more like you know what you are doing and helps keep others from carelessly walking in front of you.

Good price!

This seemingly simple piece of molded plastic was recommended to me by a professional photographer. Basically it's the shape of an open box that slides firmly onto the flash. It is small and sturdy enough to stash in your camera bag without worrying about damage. When used the light disperses more evenly and is less harsh on the subject being photographed. Inexpensive solution for better flash photography. A quality product that works.

Cool item!
00:00:00 02-03-2011
After using my lens on vacation and having a difficult time keeping sun flare off the lens, I finally decided to buy this product. Just completed doing an outdoor wedding and the sun was all over the place, and this hood did exactly what is supposed to do. Didn't ruin one shot because of sun flares. Easy to use and easy to store when not in use.
