How to Make a Slim CD-ROM Cable to Use an IDE Device:
- Small computers and laptops use a special interface for CD-ROM drives and hard drives that is smaller that standard IDE connectors and also provides power to the drive. Attaching an IDE drive or other IDE device to a computer using the on-board slim CD-ROM connector can be a challenge because the larger IDE connectors support 40 pins, while the slim CD-ROM supports 50 pins. Fashion a slim CD-ROM to IDE cable when only a slim CD-ROM connector is available for connecting IDE devices
Instructions:
- Plug the slim CD-ROM cable into the matching 50-pin, slim CD-ROM connector on the slim CD-ROM to IDE adapter
- Plug the connector at the end of the IDE cable into the 40-pin IDE connector on the slim CD-ROM to IDE adapter
- Plug the middle connector on the IDE cable into the 40-pin IDE connector on the IDE device (such as an IDE hard drive or CD/DVD drive)
Package Included:
- 1 x CD-ROM Box
- 1 x Repelling Board
- 1 x Power Cable
- 1 x USB Cable

06-10-2011- Other Thoughts: The drive arrived in good shape before the scheduled date. <br/>It installed on my netbook seamlessly when I first plugged it in and I was able to load my software on cd's and dvd's right away. I am very happy with this external dvd drive.

06-03-2011- Other Thoughts: This enclosure is well worth the cost of buying it. It's easy to use, and while just a little noisy, it's not so much so that it would bother most people. We are happy with it.

05-17-2011- Other Thoughts: If you have a laptop and want a full speed DVD burner this is your only option. The fan is loud but it moves a lot of air and would be perfect for a hard drive. One small gripe. My eject button barely cleared the face plate but 5 minutes with a pocket knife took care of that. Would recommend to anyone.

05-14-2011- Other Thoughts: Nice enclosure. I ordered 2, fan noise is not a problem on either one that I ordered! For the price and ease of installation, this unit can't be beat.
