How to Make a Quilted Ball Christmas Tree Ornament?
Making quilted Christmas ornaments is a fun project to do at home and quilted Christmas ornaments make good gifts. It is also a relatively cheap project considering that you can make the ornaments in bulk. All you need is your favorite fabric, 3-inch Styrofoam balls, sewing pins, a hot glue gun, ribbon and scissors. With so many different fabrics out there the potential design possibilities are endless. Making quilted ornaments is also a fun project for children and they make great gifts for teachers.
- Choose the fabrics you want to use. Head to your local craft or quilt store and pick out some fabrics that you like.
- Cut your fabric. Once you have decided on your fabric it's time cut your fabric or quilt patterns according to how you want your ornament to look. Many individuals like to incorporate more than one quilting pattern into the ornament.
- Sew all of the pieces together. If you've decided to use more than one pattern or fabric, you must sew all of the pieces together. Sew the pieces together so that it makes one piece of fabric. Choose thread that goes with the patterns so everything blends together and appears as though it was one piece of fabric and not a compilation of several.
- Pin the fabric to the Styrofoam ball. Once your fabric is ready, it's time to pin the design to the Styrofoam ball. Make sure you have plenty of flat headed sewing pins available. Pin the fabric to the ball so that it still retains its circular shape. By the time you are done you want it to look as though it is attached to the ball. If you have too much fabric or if there are stray pieces, you will need to cut them.
- Glue the ribbon to your ornament. Once the fabric is in place it's time to conceal any imperfections. Wrap a ribbon around the ornament doing your best to conceal rough edges and visible pins. Once you have figured out how you want your ribbon to lay, hot glue it with your hot glue gun. Once that is in place, it's time to create a hook or string to hang your ornament. Make a loop and hot glue it to the top of your ornament. Congratulations, you've designed your own quilted Christmas ornament.

06-26-2011- Other Thoughts: This set of bulbs is perfect - just the right sizes and shapes. I used them on an ornament stand and the mix of finishes and textures looks very rich and sophisticated.

05-25-2011- Other Thoughts: But even with the ornament hooks attached I was able to repack them in the box when I packed up my Christmas decorations, a major plus for me.

06-02-2011- Other Thoughts: My one critique is that they do shed glitter. Not terribly, and one has to expect that, but a word of warning in case you haven't looked carefully at the picture.

06-09-2011- Other Thoughts: The ornaments came exactly as shown in the photo (color was pretty true to the photos taken). A more even distribution of colors would also have been nice, but for the price, really a good deal.

05-13-2011- Other Thoughts: Negativity aside, I'm happy with them and they were a great addition to our tree! Four stars. They would probably be five stars if they had metal hooks. It took me forever to tie all of those loops.
