DIY: Clip Sunglasses:

- Clip-on sunglasses are extremely useful for those who already wear glasses. If you do not have contacts and you wear glasses in the sun, your other choices are limited to squinting or paying for prescription sunglasses, which are typically as expensive as regular eyeglasses. If you cannot find clip-ons in a style you like, or you do not want to pay for them, here is a way to make your own
- Unscrew the arms of the sunglasses with the screwdriver. Discard the arms and the screws
- Cut a 3-inch long piece of wire, or gently unfurl a paper clip and straighten it with the pliers
- Thread the wire through one of the holes where the screw used to be. Leave an equal amount of wire on both sides of the hole. Wrap one end of the wire twice around the area of the hole, securing the wire to the frame. Trim excess with wire cutters
- Bend the other end of the wire upward and inward into a hook shape. This is the part that will hook over the arm of your glasses. Trim if necessary. At the end of the hook, bend the wire sharply in on itself, so that there is no sharp point, only a small loop of wire
- Repeat on the other side. Try them on your glasses, and adjust accordingly
- Paint the exposed wire ends with at least two coats of clear nail polish to protect your glasses and face
How to Make Custom Clip-On Sunglasses:

- Clip-on sunglasses are a stylish and practical addition to your eyeglasses as they are easy to snap on and off depending on the light levels. They are also easier to carry around than full sunglasses, which take up more space. Unfortunately, designer clip-on sunglasses are expensive and often lacking in design and variety. Fortunately, it is easy to design and build your own clip-on sunglasses choosing from a variety of different designs
- Unscrew the arms from a pair of cheap sunglasses using a mini screwdriver
- Grasp and straighten out a paperclip with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Straighten the wire out slowly to prevent it from snapping
- Cut the paperclip wire in half using a pair of wire cutters. Slide one wire through each hinge screw hole on each side of the sunglasses
- Use the needle-nose pliers to wrap half of the wire around the hinge, keeping it firmly in place. Curve the remaining part of the wire inward toward the inside-back of the frames. Do the same with the wire on the other hinge
- Place the clip-on sunglasses over your eyeglasses and bend the wires on each hinge of the sunglasses up and around the hinges of the eyeglasses to keep them in place

10-18-2011- Other Thoughts: Despite being tiny, this Glasses Clip works well. But the axle, or pivot, may fall out after repeated use. It's only a minor problem to re-insert it, but a little thought might have prevented this design problem.

09-07-2011- Other Thoughts: I own a jeep and I did not have a place to put my sunglasses. My friend gave me one of these and I love it. I bought more to give to other friends with the same problem. They are great.
