09-16-2012- Pros: Lantern, zoom, good output. I bought this light for the convertible lantern and zoom mode. The lantern is quite good; when hung from a hook, string, or velcro it lights up a tent very well. Even lights up a small room in the house pretty well. The lantern has a good diffuser on it, so you don't get blinded while using it. The light output is also pretty good; I'd say it is the advertised 150 lumens in full zoom, using 3 AAA batteries; so no issues there. I've got some 18650 batteries on order, so can't wait to try it out with one of those. The wire 'basket' hook on the tail is handy for hanging the light; you don't see that much on flashlights any more, but I like it - much easier to hang on a hook than fumbling with a lanyard.
- Cons: The 'flood' beam (when zoom is focused all the way out) is pretty small; much smaller than other zoom lights that I have. It does a good enough job, and I'm guessing it is limited because of the lantern feature. I'm fine with this trade-off because I'm happy with the lantern, but was a bit surprised.
- Other Thoughts: There are no holes for a lanyard, but one could be attached to the basket wire. This is a pretty big light, so it's really not meant to be carried around on your wrist. I'm using it for camping, fishing, and around the house, and the lantern mode is really handy for all that. I highly recommend this light for it's price.
