How to Clean Cutting Boards:
- Scrape excess food off of the cutting board
- Scrub the cutting board down with soap and hot water
- Allow the cutting board to dry
- Sanitize the cutting board by combining 1 parts vinegar and 5 parts water to make a sterilizing solution. Pour the mixture onto the cutting board to wet the entire surface. Let the board absorb the mixture for 5 to 7 minutes and then rinse the board with clean water. Wipe the board down with a paper towel moistened with hydrogen peroxide for extra germ protection
- Combat pesky stains by wetting the cutting board and sprinkling kosher salt on it. Allow it to remain undisturbed for an entire day. Wash the cutting board with clean water. After rinsing thoroughly, add more salt to the cutting board and use a scrubbing sponge to work on remaining stains. Use soap and water for a final washing
- Deodorize your cutting board by using baking soda to scrub it and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Get rid of strong odors like garlic or onion by rubbing a cut lemon half over the cutting board's surface. Make a scented spray by mixing 10 drops of lavender essential oil with water in a spray bottle, shaking and spraying the cutting board to give it a fresh scent
- Give your cutting board a final washing and rinsing. Allow plastic cutting boards to air dry and pat dry wooden cutting boards with paper towels
How to Store a Cutting Board:
- Find a suitable storage place for your cutting board in the kitchen. Ideally, this will be a place where you can easily reach the cutting board when you need it. If your cutting board has a cut-out hole for hanging and is especially attractive, you may wish to display it when you are not using it. Find a spot on the wall where you can hang it
- Screw the hook into the wall if you will be hanging the cutting board. Make sure the placement is correct before installing the hook in the wall
- Hang the cutting board on the hook or store it vertically in the kitchen. Position it on the counter top propped against the backsplash or slide it into a cupboard so that it is in an upright position
How to Seal a Cutting Board:
- Pour a small amount of mineral oil onto the surface of your wooden cutting board and rub it in with a soft cloth. Rub in the direction of the grain and coat the entire face of the cutting board, along with the edges
- Place a soft cloth on a flat surface and flip the board over onto the cloth, oiled side down. Pour mineral oil onto the back of the cutting board to seal this side as well. It doesn't matter if you plan to cut on the back or not, both sides of the cutting board should be sealed to protect against moisture
- Season the cutting board with as much oil as it will take. When the oil begins to remain on the surface rather than be absorbed by the wood, the cutting board is sealed. Wipe off any excess oil. Let the board dry before using it
- Seal your board each time you wash it. Clean your wooden cutting board with warm soap and water on both sides. Dry the board with a cloth as much as possible, and then let it air dry in a dish drainer or over the sink. Seal the cutting board only after it is completely dry. If you use and clean your board daily, you can safely use a thin coating of walnut or vegetable oil on both sides to keep it from drying out

01-06-2010- Other Thoughts: Find this to be an excellent choice; ease of cleaning, holds up to sharp knives, perfect size for a few items to chop at a time and storage is no problem. Now, the next size up will be purchased shortly for those bigger cutting jobs in the fall.

12-01-2010- Other Thoughts: I really like the troughs around the edges, which catch liquids from items being sliced.

03-18-2010- Other Thoughts: This cutting board was the perfect size for what I wanted. It looks good and stays put due to the rubber ends. The only concern I have is that it seems rather easy to cut into. Even cutting straight down with the knife cuts into the board.
