How to Hook Up Skateboard Decks:

• Place the skateboard deck on a flat, hard surface. Peel the paper away from the rectangular sheet of grip tape, revealing the sticky underside. Apply the grip tape to the deck starting at either end, moving it slowly down the length of the deck to avoid air bubbles.
• Rub the screwdriver around the edges of the deck, sanding down the excess grip tape. Cut around the edge of the deck with the utility knife, removing the excess grip tape. Sand the rough edges of the deck with a piece of the extra grip tape until smooth.
• Flip the deck over with the grip tape facing down and the graphics facing up. Push the screwdriver into each of the eight holes until it pops though the grip tape. Flip the deck back over with the grip tape facing up.
• Place a bolt through each of the eight holes in the deck. Flip the skateboard over with the grip tape facing down and the bolts pointing upward. Thread one truck through the four bolts near the nose and one truck through the four bolts near the tail.
• Attach the nuts by hand to each bolt by threading them in a clockwise motion. Hold the bolts in place with the screwdriver while tightening the nuts with the socket wrench, also moving in a clockwise motion. Grip each truck and move it back and forth to ensure it is tightly fastened to the deck. Flip the deck over with the trucks and wheels facing the ground. Stand on the deck to ensure that it will hold your weight.

NOTE:

When choosing a skate deck, you should first decide if you want to ride street and ramp, or if you want a long board. Then concentrate on buying a deck that is light and strong, with a flex that feels comfortable under your feet. Since most street and ramp decks are the same shape, the only other decision you need to make is which type of graphics you want. You also want to be sure the board is made of strong hardwood, and isn't too heavy.
