How to Ride a Skateboard:
Skateboarding has become a very popular sport in recent years. Since the early 1980s the skateboarding industry has seen a large increase in interest worldwide. Now recognized as a viable sport, skateboarding is a huge commodity and a career opportunity for many interested skateboarders. However, learning how to skateboard isn't as simple as it sounds. Learn how to ride a skateboard and take part in this fun and challenging sport.
- Determine if you have the free time available to invest in learning how to skate. Visit a local skate park and watch some local skateboarders skate to see if this sport is truly something you would like to learn how to do.
- Visit a skateboarding store and ask the salesperson to point you in the direction of a good board for learning how to skate. Find a position on the board that is comfortable for you. Both of your feet should be centered just behind either tail of the board.
- Balance on the board for a bit to accustom yourself to being on the board and not falling. Pivot your back foot to give yourself a slight push, then return to the center position as you roll forward. This move is referred to as rolling.
- Practice pushing a few times to return to a balanced starting position. As you become more comfortable, give yourself more forceful pushes. Stop rolling by placing your back foot back on the ground to stop the momentum of the board. Also, you can drag your foot across the ground to stop rolling, but this method is slightly more advanced.
- Keep your legs slightly bent while rolling on the board in order to maintain a proper center of balance. Place your hands out to your sides to help with balancing, if you cannot maintain a vertical position on the board.
Tips & Warnings:
- When you become more comfortable, try an ollie. Center your front foot on the board while pushing the board to tilt up with your back foot. Then return your foot to the front of the board to re-position the board on the ground.
- Ask someone well versed in skating to help you learn the basics; the best method of learning is to learn with someone well versed in skating.
- Wear a helmet and kneepads when boarding, since you may fall frequently until you get the hang of skateboarding.
- Do not attempt any railing tricks or other dangerous stunts as a beginner.

04-19-2011- Other Thoughts: My initial reason for buying these were to turn them into shelves for my son's bedroom, which he wanted to turn into a skateboard themed room. It hasn't happened yet, but he has gotten a lot of use out of them buy "riding" the carpet!

We received five different colors, all very bright. The wooden decks seem to be very strong and sturdy. They also came with a grip to apply that has adhesive on the back to attach to the skateboard.

If you have a creative child or one who desires to create his/her own look with a board, this is the product for you. You can add stickers or paint or use permanent markers to design your own board. The sky is the limit.

This is also a cheaper alternative than buying a skateboard pre-assembled. You can reuse old chucks/wheels/etc., especially if a board got busted and all else is fine.

05-03-2011- Other Thoughts: My decks just came today. I was pleased because they came fairly quickly, within two days. The grip tape could be better but you get what you pay for. I would definitely buy them again.
